I do know how finances can change overnight. I went from a very well paying job to never being able to work again virtually overnight. Okay I'm not being mean as I have walked in your shoes. My suggestion is you are sending this and replying from a computer. Even if it's really old if you sell it you will have enough to put the dog to sleep. You probably won;t have enough to get the ashes, but sadly if that's not an option you can afford you will have to pass. I actually got my dogs ashes and wish I hadn't, so it's no big deal. I have had to sell things to pay for vet care in the past so I really do understand your plight. I had to sell my car at one point to pay a huge vet bill. No other option. I'm sure if you tell your vet you will sell something to cover the bill and go through with it he will co-operate and do what is needed. Just make sure you don;t mess him around as it may stop him from helping someone else in the same situation. God bless your dog.

She may want to call the local humane society first to see if they would be willing to have her surrender her dog. Since most of these local humane societies/shelters operate on donations, she may have to pay anyway.
Why can't she just take her dog to the vet to have him euthanized? As long as she doesn't want the ashes back, it shouldn't cost more that 80- 90 dollars. I'm sure a veterinarian would work with her on a payment plan for such a sad event.
JMHO, don't try to "euthanize" the dog or any animal yourself. It should be done by a professional so that there isn't any suffering on the animals part at all. Real life isn't like the movies.

Shelters almost always offer free or reduced euthanasia to low income people. I would call a local vet and explain the situation and pray that if there isnt something else they can do to treat the dog, then put it down humanely. They may offer a payment plan given the circumstance but dont let the dog suffer for not trying. To the guy who offered the "old yeller" way, that was at least 50 years ago and in no way humane. The dog was also rabbid and a threat to people as well if you recall. There is a guy who recently went to jail for animal cruelty for first poisoning, shooting, and finally setting his 4 german shepards on fire because of a botched job and he could no longer "afford them"? Nough said??

Only one way if you want to make it quick... did you see Old Yeller?
If her dog is vomiting blood, she only has about two weeks. My 12 year old cocker just died. Doing same thing, wasn't blind but was deaf. My wife wouldn't let me take her to the vet to put her down. It only costs about 100 bucks. But she wouldn't let me take her. Luckily I went home for lunch so my son didn't find her in the kitchen. Taking her dog to the vet is the most human way to do it. They will youthenize the dog there. My vet said the cost wsa about 100 bucks unless they disposed of the body. Nice Christmas present maybe? Try taking up collection at work.
Good luck. It's going to be tough for her. I'm sure the dog is like a family member. I recommend taking her to the vet, but if that's not possible, taking her out back and putting her down the old fashioned way is her only humane option.

Why don't you and the other co-workers take up a collection for the poor woman so she can have the poor dog put down ? It's called a random act of kindness, and what better time of year to pratice it?Or there's the ASPCA or Humane society,as others have suggested.

Vets usually offer a payment plan. One of the responsibilities of pet ownership is to provide medical care when needed - otherwise she/he should not have got the dog in the first place. If the dog needs to be put down, it needs to get to the vet. Period.

Your local Humane Society or Animal Control agency should be able to offer low-cost or possibly even free euthanasia for your coworker's dog.

Look for a Pomeranian Rescue group in the area. They will have the dog evaluated and if it can be saved, work to do so.

My fiance's grandmother recently had a similar problem. We called animal control and just told them the situation. Not only was it free, but they even came and picked her up.
