I'm searching for other authors that are similar to Piers Anthony. Starting the christmas shopping and I think my father owns all of Anthony's books, so I'm in need of help...

Anyone have any suggestions on similar sci fi/fantasy authors?

He might like the "Myth" series. I just loaned a collection of the books to my husband, and he loves it, too. The main character, Skeeve, is a (fairly) innocent young boy. He is from Klah, so he is a Klahd. He is apprenticed to a scaly green demon (short for dimension traveler) named Aahz (no relation), who is from Perv (known by many as a Pervert, but called a Pervect if you want to live). Aahz has lost his powers, but he is teaching him magic, anyway. Some of the most feared creatures in all the dimensions are Deveels (they look like, yes, Devils). They are feared not because they are great fighters, but because they are great merchants. As you can tell from the titles of the books, (Another Fine Myth, Little Myth Marker, etc.) they are full of puns. And there are now two hardbound volumes out which contain all the stories. Try the first one out, and if he likes it, you'll have another present ready for the next time!

Something to compare to Piers Anthony???? Oh dear...

If your dad is a fan of the puns of the Xanth series try this book...
Get Thee To a Punnery by Richard Lederer, Bill Thompson (Illustrator). It's not Sci-Fi/Fantasy, but it is hilarious not the same.

For a more Sci-Fi/Fantasy genre...it's really hard to think of something similar....give me a moment

Philip Jose Farmer (with whom Anthony colloberated), Jack Chalker, Marion Zimmer Bradley, Roger Zelazny, John Varley, Robert Silverberg, Clifford D. Simak. I enjoy Anthony too, and I think your father will enjoy these.
