You may want to consider getting more memory - If the PC has to page a lot during startup it will take a lot longer.

Is it Norton you are using? Notorious for slowing down start up. You could get over this by disabling it at start up and manually connecting to it when you want it. Probably not recommended though. Check your start up folder - start/programmes/startup and see if the computer came preloaded with lots of programmes you don't want. You can also see them in the bottom right had part of the menu bar - and if you right click them you can disable them. Alternatively, you can remove them from your control panel.

Good luck!

you downloaded antivirus? can i ask where from, also that would of meant even a short time online without any antivirus software which is usually the main reason of slow startups and sluggish computers especially after 2 weeks of buying it! firstly id download anti spyware like spybot from here---> http://www.download.com/3000-8022-10122137.html
then update it, then disconnect the pc from the internet and run spybot see if you do have any viruses/malware. if all clean then your problem is definitely something else ;) what spec pc is it?

Didn't your new computer come with an anti-virus programme already installed. Most do nowdays. If it did, and you have downloaded another anti-virus programme, then this may be causing some of your problems. Disable one of them - it may help.

have a look to see how much data there is in C:\Documents & Settings\Yourname - this is your local profile, most of which it has to load into the registry on startup. Have a look at how many programs are running at startup too, new pre-built pc's have loads of crap preinstalled that you didn't particularly want. A good site for information is this one http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_index.htm

Google is your friend, so are sites like www.computing.net which is a good forum site for this type of query.

3)your memory (ram)-is not enough..so add it at your expansion slot memory.
4)when you told that you are done to download a antivirus...i think the sofware are too lot of capasity which make hdisk effect slowest..try to download another and i suggest you to get AVG at www.download.com. I have it too and it's very good and easy..
