I agree to this "question" to a degree... i think that everyone should lay off the "my people, our plight, our struggle" comments just to the point that (in regards to the african american people) the slave stuff happened over 200 years ago, i just want to say that it is not anyones fault that, that happened, is everyone else to blame for what those racist a**holes did back then, I am totally NOT racist, and i don't think that "comment" is pseudo-racial dialog, i believe that who ever says those comments believe they have the right to use those terms to express turbulations "their people" have gone through, and i do agree, how ever it is over used. I am not at fault for something that happened 200 years ago, so why blame me, or anyone else today for what happened back then??

sometimes I hear white Americans use my people, often in white guilt as in I am sorry for what my people have done in the past. In the USA we use it in "we the people", and the forefathers were talking about "the people" as white land owners. I do not agree with it but it is the truth. If people want to isolate and group themselves into ethnic groups well they are ignorant.
"My people" should equal "ALL people" we are all stuck here together and should learn the value of not grouping ourselves into some group.
it is funny to me however that people can on one hand say "my people" it is generally perceived as a good thing but if someone says "you and your people" it is seen in a completely different context.

White Americans do say my land. But I dont believe that every race has the same struggles. Each race has there own story. I think that White Americans have had less struggles then any other race.

While all people are individuals, some groups have a shared experience of oppression that creates a common bond. It is not true that every race and tribe struggles to the same degree. White people do not say "my people" because they don;t have to-- they are in charge of most of what happen in the world.

P.S. You can tell a sexist right away when "he" refers to people in general as "he."

Any politician that refer's to "My people" and isn't refering to all the people he or she is hoping to serve...then yes I do believe his or her concernes are geared towards "special rights" for a special group of people that aren't available to all and I won't vote for them. I don't mind when they are making a stance for elderly people because elderly people are all races. I don't mind if they are wanting to stop unfair abuses in business because all people are affected by that of all races and age groups. I don't mind childrens issues as long as it covers ALL children of all races. But mention Latino rights or Black rights or Asian rights and you lost me. Coz people aren't getting that if you just target special rights for "your People", the next "different " group of people will be facing the same problems. "Blacks" weren't the first slaves in the world and many other people, including whites suffered the same issues. Mexicans aren't the first group of people in the world or the only group of people being used for cheap labor by big business and all big business isn't being run by "white guys". Child care issues face single men as well as single women and grandparents as well as parents. Shifting the "problem" to another area isn't FIXING the problem. It's just temporarily getting it off your back. A problem that isn't fixed from it's root is repeated again and again till a real solution is found.
