@ shyguy actually there have been instances where Christians ( or so called Christians ) have done just that . it may not have ( in ancient times it did actually but we are not talking about ancient times ) come from the the pope or the authorities of Orthodox church but many evangelists have been quite vocal .

ever since ancient times actually Muslims did have separate states so the presumption that Islam does not recognize the concept of states is incorrect .
also the premise for the attack was never Islam against Christianity ( other wise the the target would obviously be a religious target ) but rather a Saudi rebel targeting America .

Christians have been persecuted for 1000s of years because of Islam. I Think Islam may be responsible for more Christian deaths than any other religion.

So Islamophobia has been around since peoples lives have been threatened. That started when Mohammed was alive.

There is a fundamental misunderstanding in the thesis of your question. That is that unlike the rest of the world, Islam does not recognized the concept of nation-states. To Islam there are 2 lands...one where Islam reigns supreme and the other where it does not, and the other must eventually be conquered or destroyed. That there are a multitude of de facto muslim countries is a western convention that muslims adhere to, but only for the time being.

There are the constant protests at G8 summits decrying what they protesters claim is movement toward a sinble government over the entire world, yet they barely take notice that that is precisely the goal of Islam vis-a-vis Sha'aria.

No war should ever be fought based on a beleif system. There is no one true answer, different strokes for different folks. Everyone has their own beleifs, to perscute anyone for not beleiving the way you do is a complete perversion of what faith is supposed to represent peace, love and understanding

Here is what happened. 9/11 happened purely because of Islamic Terrorism claimed by its leader swearing by Koran in the name of "Allah".

America wants peace for its country. So it will fight the terrorists who threaten its national security, whoever they are.
