do teens still get spanked?

i havent spanked my kids since they were 4ish...kids are people too with a brain and they can understand right from wrong....beating it into them doesnt make them understand any better....it only instills fear and i dont want my children to fear me...i want them to respect me...yes i say spare the rod spoil the child but i also believe that they are capable of making informed decisions that are based on what they have been taught...it is not their fault if i fail to give them the proper tools to make their decisions....yes there are times when i want to knock their blocks off (they are 14, 14, and 17 now) but i know that they are growing up and it is my job to guide them not to terrorize them...besides, i cannot bring myself to inflict pain onto my children...they have enough crap to deal with in this world without feeling as though they have noone left to turn to....and you know what?...THEY ARE GREAT, RESPECTFUL AND RESPECTABLE KIDS!

I have heard of teens being spanked. I don't have teens yet, my girls are 3, 7, and 10. They all get spanked. I'd say 13 I wouldn't have a problem spanking, however 14 or high school, it should stop. I'd hope to stop @12, that however depends on my daughters.

I grew up in the '60's, when spanking was acceptable. Even then teens didn't get spanked, except perhaps for screwing up in gym class. If a person isn't respectable and responsible by then, they never will be.

most teens do not get spanked and those who do usually feel like they are not loved or cared for. many teens resent their parents for many years if they get spanked. and getting spanked is not a good punishment for most teens because most likely they can handle the pain and it only gives them an excuse to do it to other people because they think that if you hit them then they can hit others.

I have a 16 year old son and I have never sanked him! when he was 3 his dad gave him a swat on the butt for playing in the road but we tend to ground him for one day from his cell fone-computer-tv-and stereo. If he does the same thing again- its all gone for 2 days next time 3 days! He has only gotten to 3 days cuz it hits hard when he cant have any of his stuff! Ive actually had him ask me once when he was 13 if he could just get a swat on the butt instead of his stuff taken away! He said the swat only lasts a second and 3 days forever without his stuff! lol

I was spanked when I was 14. My dad made me pull down my pants, bend over the bed and he whipped me with his leather belt. This was what our punishment always was. I remember the incident specifically because he hadn't done it in a long time and I was more upset over having to be partially naked in front of my dad than I was over having to be whipped. I don't remember what I was being spanked for though. I totally felt violated. It should come as no surprise that I'm now 32 and have no relationship with my father at all. We don't talk and I don't care if I ever see him again.

I was spanked as a small child, and now I have learned from my mistakes. I have a 14 year old neice, that started hanging out with a new friend that moved down the street. Anyway, the girl passed a cigarette to my neice, and she took a puff. When she got back from saying hello to the new neighbor, she smelled like smoke. I told my sister and she freaked out. I told my sister just to scare my neice that she is never to old to put her over my knee and wear her butt out. My sister did spank her and she has never hung out with that bad neighbor again. You are never to old!!!

nope, you start taking things that are important to them away, with me it was t.v. time, going out, movies, now a days it their Ipods, Sidekicks, Internet, that will be like a slap in the face once they have to go 'dry', lol....
