A hot comb is a thick metal comb used to straighten hair. There are electric hot combs with variable heat settings and there are also combs that can be heated directly on top of the stove or in a special oven.

A hot comb is a small metal comb that is designed to straighten hair. It's also called a pressing comb. You can buy electric ones which are more convenient. The other one is more traditional were you heat it up by using an small electric heating gadget OR you can heat it up by setting it on a stove top. You have to use these options with caution because you can burn your hair. Once the comb is heated it advise that you pat it on a paper towel to cool it a little and you can fan it back and forth before touching your hair. Take small sections of your hair and run the comb through from the root to tip. It's better not to use little if any oil, wax or hair dress until after the hair is pressed. Electric combs can be found at most stores like Walmart. You can find electric and traditional ones at most beauty supply. The range any where from about $5-20 depending on size. Hope this info helps. Remember to be very careful because it's very easy to burn your hair. I suggest your first time be done by a professional.

A hot comb is an old fashioned straightener. It has a thicker handle than a regular comb with thick metal comb. At home you set it on the burner of the stove (electric most times) to get hot. At hair salons, they don't normally use it but there is an oven they put it inside that gets it hot and smoking really quick. I wouldn't use one because the metal part would burn the scalp more easily than a flat iron. My friend's grandmother would always use one on her thick curly hair. They are not in use much now, but you could probably find one at Sally's. A chi iron works even better though.

You can go to almost any Black cosmetologist and they could tell you. If the child has fine or wavy hair, you may want to wait until the child's older to use hot combs or flat irons, or don't do it at all. But if you decide to use a hot comb, you should make sure that it's electric and put it on low. The same with a flat iron. You should only straighten the hair once a month at the most and after the hair has been washed, conditioned and blown dry. You could probably get away with straightening the hair while blow drying it. P.S. Why would you want to straighten it anyway? People pay a lot of money to get their hair wavy and fine.

honey if you do not have kinky to nappy hair then forget the hot comb. which by the way straightens hair beautiful . the comb sits in and oven for hot combs or most women use it at home and heat it on the stove so it's very hot and thin to straight stringy hair can not be used by this method it will burn your hair right out. so no the hot comb is not for everyone. hot combs run about 15- 40 bucks and look just like a comb only they are made of metal so that they can take the heat which actually straightens the hair. so once again if you don't have very kinky or nappy course hair don't use the hot comb. p.s. they also have electric ones know and the same goes for the electric it's very hot and not recommend for thin to stringy hair

Pressing combs are usually for black women. You can buy them at beauty supply stores. You place them on the stove let them get hot, wipe off first on a towel, if the towel turns dark brown to black the comb is too hot for your hair, and take sections of your hair, starting at the roots and slowly go down the hair until you reach the ends. Pressing Combs are not expensive. I bought a electric one for $ 20 and works just as good as the ones that goes on the stove.

A hot comb is a metal comb that is heated, then combed through extremely curly hair ... Once hot, remove the comb, shake it, and run it through coarse hair.

It is like a flat iron with a comb instead of the iron. it get the hair straighter than with a flat iron, and it is also more time consuming. A hot comb is hotter and more dangerous than a flat iron; thus, I suggest using a ceramic flat iron that should get your hair as straight as one would want or need.
