From what I have seen, it is the up-beat, trendy, happy-clappy church people who have the most dated ways of thinking; quite happy to believe every word of the Bible as "the Word of God."
How medieval is that?
No! Give me a dusty old church with a huge echo, an organ, stained-glass and hard pews, and a clergyman who tells you that he doesn't know all the answers, but that loving people is the only really important thing, and I'll show you a true modern Christian.
It is 'modern' because the Christian message is still revolutionary.
"Modernity" is no substitute for "contemporary scholarship" and the unconditional expression of Christian love, which cares for the faithless and the sinner, just as much as it does the believer.

Yes, it would for me. I would expect a church to be an old building, with stained glass windows, rock hard freezing cold pews and a hymn book down the back of the seat in front of you.
The idea of a plasma screen made me giggle!
Although Im sure all churches have happy people!!

It would be exactly what I would have first thought of, unfortunately. It really embodies the aspect of Christianity that seems to so negate its value; the necessity of the social aspect in its operation.
I'll take a medieval Cathedral or a traditional temple where I can think and chat with people in peace over the deliberately overpowering and action-based mess that most Christians want any day.

First thought... Oh no... another religious preacher
Second.. after reading the rest of the question... Yes, I was right!
and No.... I would not want to join your church... plasma screens and all...
A church is not a building, one full of gadgets and certainly not a place to be preached to... It's ANY place where people gather to pray.

I remember someone I worked with desperatey trying to "save my soul". He went on and on about the Alpha Course and how churches were so cool nowadays with guitars and drums. The fact is that if I don't believe in God what is the point of going to church no matter what it's like, surely I would just be a hypocrite?

When I see "church", my first thought is that someone mistranslated the bible again.
The word in the bible some translate as church really means
"congregation". the greek word means people not building.
In reference to the second part of your question,
people can and do use modern equipment in their worship of God.

What is it about us? We all need to feed ourselves. What about giving gflory to God. Church is not the building, but the people who are "In Christ" bought by His precious blood.
The building is only the place where the local church meets.
Too much money spent on elaborate buildings when so many in this world are starving and cold and hungry.
A warm friendly up-to-date building is not the answer.
Jesus in your heart is the only way to go!!!!

Your experience of church has clearly not been for the original purposes, that which is to partake in God's abundant love. I think the world would be much more progressed if focus was shifted to the innermost core of things, things which mattered such as Love, inner beauty, peace and harmony, rather than gaudy flashy things which fade away with time.
What you are saying (in the details section) about happy positive people etc, is my usual experience of church, but that should erroneously imply, as your statement suggests, that Christians are robots with smiles transfixed on their faces who don't know the pains of suffering. To claim that is not only foolish but smacks of immaturity and inexperience. Sorry if I sound harsh but I find it hard to suffer the folly of others when they talk about something which is clearly not well thought out.

I guess it would be the last one I was in. I went to a catholic church which had fairly modern architecture. No plasma screens though.
