"Yeah, that might have been funny in junior high, but...well, this is grown up land."

I'd just ignore it if I were you.

You could also say something to HR or your boss if it is the kind of thing that disrupts your whole work area.

That being said I would probably get along really well w/ this guy. My office mate and I are big on quoting pop culture stuff. Just the other day we confused the heck out of a co-worker when we spoke in Saturday Night Live.

It's hard to confront an annoying co-worker but the best results are usually when it is done respectfully and quietly.

You can pull him aside and talk to him one on one (not in front of other co-workers) and explain to him that his habits annoy or offend you. To be fair, you could also give him an opportunity to say something critical about you.

Not everyone is receptive to this type of criticism and there is a chance he'll respond negatively to it. You'll want to be prepared with how you would want to react to that. In my experience, it is best to take the higher ground and respond professionally and calmly.

If you are truly offended, you could research what your personnel manual says about harrassment issues and start documenting instances and take it to the next level for disciplinary action.

All this being said - it is possible that confronting the co-worker could backlash on you. It could brand you as prudish or a tattletale and depending on the culture of your workplace this could make life even more difficult. You'd have to weigh this consequence when deciding what you want to do.

We all need to learn to work with difficult people. Sometimes the best course of action is to limit your exposure to this person as much as possible and ignore his rude behavior.

Good luck.

Usually, the best approach is to face him directly. You should tell him that it really is not funny and specifically not for a grown man to quote cartoons.
