now everytime i flip channels and see some religious tv show at the bottom of the screen they have a number and it says call for prayer now my question is this why? cant you pray fo yourself or is this some scam to alleviate gullible christians from their money

Some feel/believe that there is power in prayer by two or more people; they believe that if two agree in anything ...
Some what are alone in this world, or that feel they are new and/or weak Christians want someone to pray with and for them.
You are right, of course, that you can pray for yourself. And of course some less than reputable groups might get your phone number, etc. and then use it to make appeals for monies ... though I am sure that is not so in every case.

A true christian has prayer life. It can be formal prayer or simply a conversation with God. You can pray for yourself in asking for the right things pertaining to faith but it is also a very good idea to pray for other souls for they are also in much need.

There are often those who have over whelming problems, and it helps them to have someone Pray with them. It is also for those who wish to get Saved to be counseled. The counselor can then lead them in The Sinners Prayer.

I don't watch religious television.
Of course, you can pray to God yourself, or in a group. But the Bible is very clear...the gifts of God are NOT for sale. Don't EVER pay anyone to pray for you, or for anyone else. Don't even offer to send any "love gifts". It's a scam, and it is a shame to Christ and to His church.
I would suggest you change the channel to a good movie, or to cartoons.

Televangelists are just using people to get money. You can pray to God yourself. And you've got a much better chance of being heard than by paying someone to pray for you.

The more people who pray for you the better. God knows what you need, but he likes us to be humble and ask him for what we need. It keeps us close to Him. And you do not have to pay for someone to pray for you..If someone is asking for money to pray for you I would beware. If you need pray just ask here.
