Isn't it true that all believers and non-belivers pray when they are sad, afraid, or guilty?

Since I am not a non-believer, I do not know for sure if they pray. I know my husband said he did...weird, huh? But he only prayed in times of need or hurt as do many who are believers. Personally, I pray for the good and the bad in my life. Without the bad, I wouldn't know what the good was. The bad and hard times also teaches us perseverance among other things. So in saying, I thank God for the thorns in my life and praise Him for the roses.

I haven't prayed since I lost my religion. I have been through a murder in my family and the death of several other family members. Cancer, car wrecks, you name it.

It's true that THIS non-believer doesn't pray any more than you might send out a list to Santa "just in case you're wrong."

No.

My father died this last year, as did a close friend of mine who was only 18.

I was in a rather bad car wreck.

I have felt very sad, very afraid, and very guilty.

I never prayed once.

Why would I pray to something that isn't there?

I wont say it's the case for ALL of them but for a lot of them yes. My friend is Atheist and he will admit when he's really scared or sick he will pray. Oddly enough, when he's prayed when he was sick to get better, or when he was scared, to be safe.. he always got what he asked for. Sadly, he always ends up crediting coincidence :(

If I'm sad I talk to my grandkids. If I'm afraid I talk to myself. If I'm guilty I talk to my lawyer.
