My sister has a boxer named Emma. Emma has recently (within the last 2 weeks) began using the bathroom inside instead of outside. She hasn't urinated but keeps defacting in the same rooms. Prior to this happening, she was completely trained and rarely had an accident. Any ideas as to what might be causing this behavior? Also, do you know of any ways to change this? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!

I forgot to mention that she did have a dog before but had to give the dog to another family.

It seems that this is when it all began. I don't know if that has something to do with it, but I thought I would add it in case it does.

Well there are allot of possibilities one could be the friend leaving it puts an emotional stress on a dog just like a human losing a best friend another possibility is an infection so err on the side of caution and rule out the infection if it is the latter thoroughly clean the areas and tell her to spend some extra time with him he needs the comfort and the support to get through the separation

Because the dog just lost her friend she is obviously very upset with your sister. Most people don't realize how attached dogs get to other dogs or people in the home. Your sister needs to be understanding, try keeping Emma more active and entertained and give her time.

Is it the dog food perhaps? Did she change it's eating schedule. The best thing I can think of is put the dog on an eating schedule and you should be able to time the 'defecation'. Reward her when she does it properly and be SURE to clear the area she has already used with a good disenfectant, otherwise it will continue to use the spot bc she smells herself there.

I would try crate training Emma again and keep the rooms she poops in closed. Clean the areas she pooped in with "Nature's Miracle" which worked really well with my dogs when they had accidents. Good luck!

hose down the spot with vinegar. If you catch the dog in the act, a good squirt with vinegar will make them stop. Make sure you hit the spot where it was though. this will cause her not to go in that same spot again, and will help train her.

this is very abnormal. i have, quite frankly, never heard of this. you shold try potty-training her again, and since she in insisting to go in the house, maybe you should litterbox train her, put them in the rooms she normally goes in. and she migt not want to go outside and do her buisness any more because of winter, the cold wind and the rain? please tell me how things work out!

she has been abused. Somebody did very bad things to that dog and now she is traumatized. No cure. Better put her to sleep.
