I have Myasthenia Gravis i am on a medicine called cellcept. When the doctor prescribed me the medicine he asked me if was planning on having a baby i said no(i have one already and wasn't planning on another) the doctor told me that cell cept can terminate the pregnancy. i am currently with someone and i think i may be pregnant with his baby. If i go off the meds i know my body will basically be to the point to where i can't chew or breathe while i am laying down or even walk up stairs But if i AM pregnant and i continue the meds i can cause death to an unborn life which is against my beliefs...i don't want to be to the point of where i need help walking and feeding myself and even help showering but i don't want to cause harm to an unborn life what should i do??????Please Help.....

Birth Control isn't or was never an option because it controls hormones i can't take it because my disorder is auto immune and my hormones are already all out of whack birth control causes my medicine to give me differen't dosages or causes my meds to not work at all....I know because i was on birth control after i had my daughter and i was put in the hospital because i couldn't move my legs or arms.

You are in a terrible place. My wife has MG and I understand the fear of the immobilization and helplessness it can cause. You should definitely speak with your neurologist and gyn about possible birth defects and fetal damage ASAP. There are other treatments for MG out there like other drugs, IVIG or plasmapherisis. These are all options that should be discussed immediately with your M.D.
In terms of this possible pregnancy, get yourself to the local drugstore, buy a test and find out for sure. In my opinion, your health is the most important and risking your life for a pregnancy is not an option. Of course, it is entirely up to you and your health care provider. They may be able to work out a way for you to use an alternative means of controlling your disease during the pregnancy.
If the pregnancy test is negative, you should look into other means of birth control. You can use an IUD, diaphragm, cervical cap, spermicide, condoms, or sponge. None of these rely on hormones and can prevent this issue in the future. There are non-hormonal IUDs that can be as effective as the pill for birth control.
To the other respondents that said you should have thought of this before becoming pregnant, shame! You don't know a person's situation unless you are there in the room with them. Telling this woman that she should have thought about is before she got pregnant is doing nothing for her very personal and difficult dilemma.

First of all, you need to talk to the doctor and find out if you are pregnant for sure and if you are if the cellcept could have already caused damage to the fetus ... If it could have then maybe terminating the pregnancy would not be a bad thing . I know you have beliefs about harming an unborn life, but in your case do you think it's really fair to stop your meds and be less able to take care of the child you already have .
You're in a hard place where someone loses no matter what decisions you make, but at least staying on the cellcept will be a help to both you and your child.
Good luck!! I'll be praying for you :)

First of all, know that everything will work out for the best. Don't beat yourself up about what happened, like you said it wasn't planned or anything and you did nothing wrong. Simply call your MD and explain the situation. Perhaps there is another med you can try while pregnant, or call an OB-Gyn, they could know the side effects/toxicity of this med on a fetus. The doctors could explain your options to you while you're pregnant, that is if you're pregnant. So, go schedule a pregnancy exam with your MD, over the counter pregnancy tests may not be able to pick up on the pregnancy until after about 8wks. Until you're sure of the pregnancy don't worry, or beat yourself up about it. Then if you are, you and your MD can discuss options.

Continue taking your medication and see your Dr. immediately. Your concern for this 'unborn life' should have started before you got pregnant. Only your Dr. will be able to tell you what to do now. I hope that things work out for all of you and I hope that you choose a different form of birth control in the future.
If hormonal birth control is not an option, talk to your local Family Planning agency about other options. Perhaps consider having your tubes tied if you will be taking this medication permanently.

well it sounds to me that you already knew the risk of the meds and obviously didnt take the steps necessary to keep from getting pregnant...anyway not to place blame but if you dont want to be stuck in a certain situation then you have to be smart enough not to get yourself in the situation to begin with...if you are pregnant then perhaps the meds have already caused damage to the fetus and you wont be able to carry-out the pregnancy anyway the best way to find out is to go to the doctor...anyway in my opinion i would rather keep my health and not continue a pregnancy especially if the meds have or will cause damage the the unborn fetus...use birth control...get your tubes tied there are many non-hormonal methods of birth control

Call your gyn doctor. What is more important to you: being able to live so you can take care of the baby you already have or your possible pregnancy? Plus find out if you are pregnant and ask the doctor questions about such a situation.
There maybe another drug your doctor can prescribe if you are pregnant.
Call today.

Perhaps you should have thought about this before. Why didn't you get on birth control when you knew the medication caused this?
At this point you should probably talk to your doctor about your options.
There are lots of forms of birth control that are not hormonal.

If the life of the mother is in danger, it would be a perfectly moral choice. Not only that, what good would you be to your baby if you didn't take your meds and your condition worsened? Think about the child you have. S/he needs you more than the embryo you may or may not be carrying.

i think that it is forgivable that you would terminate a pregnancy to save your own life. you should see a dr though because maybe they can change you to another medicine.
