it takes 4 miles of cycling to equal 1 mile of jogging, however cycling is easier on The joints. jogging however is a better exercise according to some. I am a runner and like it better than cycling, but that is a personal preference. If you are not losing then maybe you need to look at your portions of your diet. you Will lose weight if you burn more calories than you consume

The fun part about cycling is that you cover more ground and you get to actually enjoy the scenery. Have you ever seen a jogger smiling? That's because jogging beats you up. The advantage of cycling is that you can actually feel the increase in effort when you are pedaling uphill. The cool thing is that if you are cycling right, you will be using the muscles in your arms and back as well as the muscles on your legs. For higher efficiency, use toe straps or clipless pedals (where the shoe snaps into the pedal). This allows you to pull up on the back pedal, thus doubling your exercise. With practice, you can actually achieve a fluid circular motion that tones legs like no other. Try pedaling while standing, and pull the bike from side to side with your arms. This will give you leverage for the downstroke as well as tone your arms!

Jogging is more effective but only slightly. Try varying the speed during a run - sprint for bits (where not too many people can see you lol) then run fast for a bit, then jog and keep doing that. If you can, try combining jogging with weight training either at home (tips and exercises easy to find on internet) or at the gym. Or swim instead - better than jogging as it burns more calories and works all muscles, plus you'll probably find you can swim for longer than you jog.

They both are, but cycling is easier on the joints but much more boring. 2 weeks ain't long enough to establish any kind of pattern, so what you are doing is probably just fine. Here are my recommendations:
Drink lots of water, walk, run, or swim an hour every day except 1 then do stretching and upper body toning. Eat fruits & vegetables.
No alcohol
no bread
no burgers
No candy
No chips
no corn
no fried foods
No pasta
No pizza
No potatoes
No sodas
No sugar
Good Luck
PS. A word of caution - don't use any kind of weights when running or walking.

If you are over-weight and jogging three miles a day, take care.
A friend of mine (in fact two now I come to think of it) did just that.
One has had to have a hip operation and the other has finished up with dodgy knees.
Good luck. I wish I could lose some weight too!

Try both. It's good to switch up the muscles. Maybe do 20 minutes jogging and 20 cycling.

Cycling is less stressful on the joints than jogging. If these exercises are to aid weight loss though you'd be better being patient and walking with weights on or use them while cycling.
You only start to burn fat after roughly 10minutes of heightened exercise so jogging would do you more damage...
Secret is stick with it, be patient and good luck!

Hello Matt T.
What would be more effective to your running is the use of hills and different types of running. If you are knackering yourself out after each run and your heart rate is super high, you won't lose weight. You need to keep your heart rate at about 65% of your maximum heart rate. Hills will burn calories like arsonists burn buildings. Also try interval running, for instance. Run for 2 minutes hard, then 2 minutes medium paced and finally 2 minutes really slowly, hardly running at all. Then repeat until you've completed a set distance or time. Try having a look on Runners World website. I use it all the time for tips. HTH

It depends on the results you are looking for. If it just to lose some weight try walking and cycling. It is easier on your knees.
Jogging is hard on the knees. Drink more water and cut down on the pop/soda if you drink it just this alone you can lose weight my friend lost 5 pounds just from drinking only water and walking everyday. Good luck Happy Thanksgiving

You have probably hit a plateau in your workout routine which will lead to no more weight loss. Your body is basically bored so I would suggest you do something different to sort of "shock" your body. Try another workout routine and switch your routines occassionally. Also, try to only consume 1200 calories per day for maximum weight loss.
