I was referred to an oral surgeon for wisdom teeth removal. They set up an appointment and I was unsure of whether I wanted sedation or not. I got there and asked if I could speak with someone about the risks and stuff first, and they said yes. (I was never offered a consultation prior to the surgery). Well I never got to talk to anyone. The place was packed and everything was so fast paced it made me more nervous than I was to begin with. They rushed me into a room and the rude nurse sort of answered my questions but not really. So I just decided to get the sedation although I wasn't sure what they did. They did not close the doors on any room. There were like a billion people in there just walking by. They took me to my surgery room, and again left the door open for everyone to see. Then I woke up in recovery, the door open, and the nurses were fighting with eachother about who was supposed to be taking care of me (I thought this was unprofessional).

Anyway, I felt like I was at a fast food restaurant by the way they rushed me through. Is this typical of oral surgery places? This was not some huge establishment either. I just felt really rushed. The nurses didn't even explain how to change my gauze like they said they would. I've had minor outpatient surgeries before and everyone there was super nice and helpful. Is this just an oral surgeon thing? Should I mention my bad experience to my referring dentist?

There was no info sent to me pre surgery, and they gave me a vague sheet of things to do after surgery. But they skipped a few key things like how to change my gauze. I had no idea how to put it in there correctly, plus it hurt so bad.

i highly suggest you mention it to the referring dentist and i would also let the director of the oral surgeons office know as well, but know that all offices have their off days:) a good reason for having all the doors open is for their safety! i know you have heard of surgeons groping their patients when they are sedated?! well that's why the doors are open and also if their is a problem the nurses can hear and see.
not to mention they should have sent you information ahead of time explain your options and given you a post op instructions explain gauze, ricing exc.
