Usually using the litterbox is a trait that they learn from their mothers. Where did you get the kitty? A kitty from the streets alone may have a harder time than a kitty that was with it's mother for a lot of it's young life.
"Kittens will instinctively use the litter box as they get older, but their mother also helps to teach them. Make sure that a litter box with sides low enough for the kittens to get in and out is easily accessible. Keep the litter box clean - this encourages the kitten to develop good litter box habits. "
How often do you clean the litterbox?
You could...
(a) Put kitten in the bathroom with the litterbox so that you don't have any more accidents on your floor.
(b) Use "Cat Attract" litter for a little bit. It's supposed to help attract the cats to the litterbox. I used it to get a stray used to a litterbox indoors and had no problems with unwanted accidents. He learned quickly that the box is the only place open for business.
(c) Combine suggestions (a) and (b). Start using cat attract in the litterbox when your kitten is in the bathroom to get her used to the smell and the box.
I brought home a kitten at 12 weeks (3 months) and all I had to do was show him where the box was. I've NEVER had an accident with him.

Keep reminding her where the box is. Just take her out to it from time to time and she will probably start to go. Also, you may want to have her watch you scratch the litter around the box. Cats love to scratch - so if she knows the litter is "scratchable" she might get in to go.
One person mentioned putting Clorox in the box. DO NOT do this! That is very dangerous. If your cat drank any of it, it would be very harmful. Plus, bleach is not good for cat's skin!

don't worry she'll get there, she may just be a little young just now but keep persevering and she'll learn. oh and use non bio washing powder to clean the areas she has messed on it'll take away the odour so even she can't smell it, this will discourage her from going to these places again. good luck, i have a 6 month old kitten and she was clean really quick, hope yours is too.

Perhaps she has trouble getting into the box or is afraid to jump in. Sit with her for a while by the box and see if she goes in on her own or attempts to. Might need a different box.

That's a good thing that she goes when you put her in the litter box. You are training her. Hopefully she'll learn, and she'll go on her own.

I had one like that, if he was by the box when he had to go he would use it. If he was else where, he would go where ever. This went on for a YEAR!! I have never had a cat like that. I have no advice. Sorry

shes probbally too young and not trained yet so you should try to train her by keep in her & the litter box in an uncarpeted room such as the bathroom intil she gets used to it.
