no, doing push ups with hands close together are for strengthening triceps. to work the core of your chest, lay down on your back with your hands stretched laterally holding weights or elastic bands, then pull them up towards your center without bending your elbows (i forgot what this term is called).

Depends on your overall goal.

Wide push ups work the outer pecs. Hands closer together will work the inner part of the pecs and more of the triceps. Incline presses or push ups will work the upper part of the pecs while decline will work the lower.

with your hands close together you are working your triceps. the further apart you go the more you are working your pecs
