One of the issues in my state is that most people cannot afford health insurance and the ones who can, it is limiting on what health insurance will cover. Now in my opinion addictions are a medical condition and should be treated as a medical condition. There are soo many problem revolving around drugs and alcohol, but there are not many good rehabilitation programs available. If you go to the ER with an alcohol problem they can help you, but not if you have a drug addiction problem.

Now the majority of people with drug addictions are discovered upon injury or surgery and the individual is on medications. The Pharmaceutical companies charge people and insurances so much for medications, if a person cannot afford health insurance or keep their medication, they will find their "meds" elsewhere. It is a vicious cycle. Also people are not always properly weaned off of medications and many doctors are drug pushers and will keep a person on the medications for as long as possible.

Instead of locking people up for first time drug offense, they should use the money for rehabilitation programs that are comprehensive for people who cannot afford rehab or health insurance, instead of locking up people. But if a person had acquired rehabilitation and is a repeated offender, then lock them up and take care of their drug habit by providing drug rehabilitation programs in prison.

In my state, drug rehabilitation program costs $500 a month, and health insurance costs about the same. Most health insurance will not cover drug addiction programs. Also it costs $28,000 a year to house just one inmate. In my state there are about 48% of people locked up for drug addiction related situations.

No, I think drugs and alcohol are the crutches that people lean on in this time of materialism and consumerism. People feel inadequate because they can't buy the things the media tell them they need/ live the celebrity life that is promoted as such great fun. To repress their anxieties and forget for a while, people turn to the one thing they have always been able to escape through, drugs and alcohol. No matter what level of society you come from, there is pressure to be something you're not. We need to go back to basics and return to respect for one another as the most important thing man can achieve.

The safest cities have quite some registered gun proprietors, and places like Washington, D.C., the place reliable men are actually not allowed to hold weapons, have severe gun-crime costs. examine it out for your self! So it particularly is now not weapons. medications interior the palms of compulsive, immature all and sundry is risky, notwithstanding it particularly is now not the medications themselves -- it particularly is the folk. whilst there are not any significant effects for killing infants whilst you're on crack, and you'd be able to flow loose via asserting it became the drug that made you do it, why give up being a crack-head? Society has authorized your drug use. Alcohol interior the palms of compulsive, immature human beings, comparable ingredient. whilst we decide for to be accountable for our very own lives and cope with all weapons and components with challenge and attention for others, there'll be no facets to take. we are the main important possibility to society!

Nope.
Why do people grow up and turn to those things?
Thats the real question.
Is it because they don't feel self worth?
Is it because the public education system failed them?
Is it because getting drunk and stoned every day of your life is cheaper that going to a 4 year college?
Or maybe they were treated badly growing up, and cannot afford a therapist..

Our childhoods and childhood education defines who we become, how we look at ourselves, etc. All of our problems as a society start in childhood. We as a society need to focus on our children. They are the future of this country.. and this world.

No, these are symptoms rather than cause. You might look at consumerism, very poor diet, poor education, poor parenting, etc. There are several major issues with western society. Alcohol and drugs form a small part compared to the general trend of rot.

People are the biggest problem in society today...attitudes towards each other respect for each other...drugs and alcohol are just excuses offered up by some of the people who have made our society the perilous place it is by allowing abusers of substances to cast off any responsibility for their actions and blame anybody else that they can!

Illegal Drugs more than alcohol because the taking of drugs will distort judgement by definition. Alcohol is legal and may be used theraputically and socially without problem by most. FOr those that cannot, help is available.

TO your point, these are catylysts and not causes. Depresssion, economic hardship, hopelessnes, abusive relationships are not caused by these but they will intensify the effects.
