You are actually supposed to eat the bushy part at the top, plus part of the stem. Cut in the way it looks in your picture. Often people break off chunks so it is easier to eat. You can eat it raw or steamed, but people usually steam it if you are going to eat it with a meal. Steam it so that it is soft enough to put a fork though, but not so much that it is mush. But like I said, you can eat it raw, with salad dressing/veggie dip. Some people eat it steamed with melted cheese on top. I personally like the stem, and sill just eat that sometimes, but that isn't the norm haha. And just get rid of leaves and roots. They won't hurt you, they just aren't as appetising. I cannot believe you have never had broccoli.

Yes. It contains beta carotene which is converted into vitamin A in the body. Vitamin A is the most important vitamin for skin as well as other functions of the body.
