I'm not sure that "so many people choose to be celibate". I kind of feel like I'm in the minority here. I'm a virgin, and so is my fiancée. We both will remain so until our wedding night. I don't like to say it's for 'religious reasons', so much as it is for moral reasons. I'd quote the Bible, but I doubt most of you would care about what it says. Let's just say I look forward to the thought of a lifetime-committed sexual relationship with the woman I love, that won't be torn apart except for death. There will be no worries about past lovers having shared her, or if I'm good enough in bed. We'll both be learning together, and I find that thought comforting.

Sidenote: I've always found it hilarious when people say that people are virgins because 'they simply can't get any'. I'm almost inclined to think that those people are virgins themselves, or maybe still 16 years old. With the myriad of sluts and hookers out there today it's pretty ludicrous to think that someone would willfully choose to be a virgin simply because they couldn't find someone to have sex with them.

Celibacy is a very good descion.People choose to be celibate b/c they dont have to worry if they will get a disease, and with the way aids is spreading so bad they make it eas on themselves by not giving themselves a chance to get it.The girls dont ever have to worry about ''could i be pregnant'',''am i pregnant''.The virus HPV is spreading through the sex thing b/c all you have to have is skin to skin contact to get it and its the #1 killer in woman by causing cancer. And i know your thinkin well use a condom but a condom cant protect u from HPV b/c it doesnt cover the whole genital area. The most common diseases are mainly HPV,AIDS,crabs, clahymeddia, gonarrhea. So many young teens are getting theses diseases. Some are curable over time and some arent!Dont take the chance of gettin somethin u cant wash off!

Some people might choose celibacy because they are looking for a more meaningful relationship..a relationship with substance..Everyone now days wants to jump in the bed and not get to know each other. And then you move on to the next person..However, this gets old..

I am in my early thirties and I am Celibate all my life. It is partly religious because I view my body as a temple as the Bible says. The second reason is there is too many diseases out there from sex. Also, lastly I think in this society we take sex two lightly. When I do it, that will be with my husband on my weeding night.

I've been in and out of relationships for all of my adult life, then when the last one ended I decided I needed "time out" to just be myself and live my life without the drama and emotional rollercoaster. It really allowed me to get myself together and reconsider what I want in a *partner* besides hooking up with the next person to come along.

Pregnancy is a good reason to be celibate.

Some people are just losers, and can't get anyone.

Some have VERY low sex drives which is a nice way to say it is nonexistent.

And others are just very confused, and their religion DOES NOT help them at all.

Number 1 reason is religion

The second would be inept social behavior

The third would be fear (probably caused by a traumatic experience during childhood) and insufficient education about sex

no one chooses celibacy. it just happens so to save face they act righteous about it as if they chose to be on purpose.
