I was arrested over a year ago. Apparently I had bounced a check 6 years ago and didnt know about it. I had moved away and never had my mail forwarded because I wasn't really recieving anything there. So, yeah. Anyhow, Now....I'm overly paranoid about it. I'm so afraid that there is another bounced check out there. Is there a good way to check on this without having to spend too much money, which I don't have?

Depending on which state you live in, you may be entitled to a copy of a criminal records check through your state police agency.

As an example, Illinois allows an individual to view what is contained in their arrest record; charges, case status, and convictions. Juvenile information is not included unless you were charged as an adult. However this information cannot leave the office, in this case the Bureau of Investigation. I think it was in Joliet, and it was a twenty (20.00) charge.

Check with your state police agency website to see if they offer that, or something similar. Another way is to contact your home town pd to see if your state offers something similar.

If you did not go to court on it; meaning you moved to 'miss trial' do not be surprised if there is or was a warrant issued for your arrest. Bouncing a check or 'floating' is usually a misdemeanor offense, unless you have prior convictions for a theft or fraud offenses, then they might bump it to felony charges.

Go to a library and look up your state's criminal code, that should tell you what time you may have to do.

Hope that helps.

Did you ever take care of the checks? If not you will have warants in that state for your arrest. Go out and get a ticket for running a red light in front of a police officer and I'm sure he will make sure your record is clear for free.

I presume that you have a probation officer or another contact within the law enforcement community -- just ask them. If there is an outstanding warrent, they'll serve it on you eventually, so it's not like you're going to get in trouble you wouldn't otherwise. Learning what issues are out there and being willing to face up to them is a great first step towards taking control of your life.
