(gas grill) I put them on the grill, set on high, and closed the lid. They won't burn, will they?

Our grill is old and has all kinds of gunk on the grate, that's why I'm not just grilling them straight-up.

They will burn on high, even in foil. That gunk on your grill is easy to remove, take a large onion and slice the end off.Take the end with the stem, and once the grill is fired up, rub the onion over the gunk till it's gone. You can use a long fork to hold the onion if fires too hot.Rub hard and it will clean up.It will leave a small amount of onion flavor in grill, but it burns off.I throw the onion on top of my coals and let the onion flavor burn into my meat.

Yes, you can cover the grill instead of wrapping the dog. That will allow you to grill like normal and still protect the food from "the gunk".

Anything can burn and butter burns real fast. Either get a new grate, clean yours and get a grill basket with a flat bottom.

Yes, they can burn...

Next time put them in a small bit of water to boil/steam them a bit, the water will keep them from burning until all the water has steamed away, and the change in smell at that point will give a great indication that the dogs are ready to be served.

I must admit, no. Chocolates are harmful to some dogs. What more with a peanut butter candy with a tin foil wrapping? Think about it! Bring your dog to the vet immediately!

Yes they will burn even wrapped in foil so you do have to keep close watch.
