I am a pet groomer and alot of my clients take there dogs to get their teeth cleaned at the vet and it runs them $300-$400 each year to get their dogs teeth cleaned. That is about the typical price.

The price of a dental cleaning at most vets is directly proportionate the the amount of cleaning that needs to be done. For smaller jobs, when there is just a bit of buildup, it's usually 25 dollars at most vets. But it increases incrementally the more damage that has been done to the dog's teeth and can be in the hundreds if the tooth rot has gotten to the point where the gums are being infected and the teeth need to be removed. If the dog's whole tooth at any point is brown, it has probably advanced to the point where a vet does indeed need to deal with it. However, if it is just on the tips and the teeth don't look as though they are wholly rotted, what you should do to save time and money is start right now and be sure to faithfully continue a teeth cleaning regimine. All dogs should have their teeth brushed by their owners at LEAST once weekly. This is a very easy process. Most grocery stores/wal-marts sell puppy tooth brushes (must use a puppy tooth brush because of the size/shape/angle) and puppy toothpaste (again, must use the type only for dogs because human toothpaste is very dangerous for them). You don't need to rinse the dog's mouth after doing this. Just brush their teeth like you would your own, making sure to be thorough. They may not like it at first, but will get used to it over time, and you will save a TON of money on what could be painful and costly vet cleanings.

It totally depends on where you live.
I live in NYC and the cost to have my dogs teeth cleaned (with anesthesia) was about $400 - $500.
Instead I took him to a friend who had a great vet in North Carolina that she had used for a long time and it only cost $120.
It is not something that I would look to cut corners on though. I would not shop around for the cheapest vet possible to put my dog under.
Also, it seems like a lot of money, but you don't have to do it that often, unless your dog has really bad teeth.

Yep that is right. I pay $300 a piece for my two Yorkies. Not only do they clean the teeth, but they do blood work and put the animal under anesthesia.
The regular teeth cleaning kit that you can buy is like a toothbrush with liver or chicken flavored toothpaste. You have to brush their teeth everyday, but like you they will need regular cleanings because tarter and plaque builds up.

Your vet is too high for teeth cleaning. Call other vets and get some prices.

I've heard it's VERY expensive since they have to sedate the dog cause as you may have found out, they aren't very cooperative when you try to do it. I was lucky and was able to semi-train my dog at the time to relax a bit, still struggled every now and then, but i hear it runs around $300-500!

From what I've been told, you can do it yourself at home. You can buy the dog teeth cleaning kits at Pet Smart or Pet Co. HOWEVER you have to do it every day for it to be effective. When you get it done by the Vet, they have to sedate your dog to do it.

There are so many products for teeth maintenance for your pet. Try petedge.com....wholesale prices for pet owners. They sell to alot of vets and groomers. They are really a b2b wholesaler but anyone can purchase from them. They sell just about everything for your pet for about a 1/4 or less than a pet store.

My vet gave me an est. of 150.00 for my dog, but he is younger and therefore will not require re-op lab work,
if your dog is older he will require lab work to determine his organs are functioning properly before they put him under general anesthesia

He wanted $300 for my cat!
So that sounds about right.
I guess they put the animal under anesthesia to do it, that's why the cost is so high.
