It depends on the lamp and the person. If the lamp doesn't bother you, it isn't bad.
Some fluorescent tubes seem to flicker and irritate some people. Also, some tubes emit a kind of electromagnetic radiation from the ends, that has a negative effect on some people mentally. I have known people to cover the ends with lead foil to solve this problem.
I'm not sure, but I think modern fluorescent tubes are better than the old ones; I haven't felt irritated by fluorescent lights in a long time. I use the modern energy-saving fluorescent lights that replace incandescent bulbs all over the house.

According to my eye doctor, it's the reason behind my bad eyesight due to poor lighting and therefore my eyes had to overwork themselves to be able to see. Same thing with my daughter. When we went she asked of all the lighting that is normally used on any given day at work for me, and at school, and she said it was the flourescent lamps that we both have in common. Even beside my computer screen both at work and at home I have a small regular lamp to take the glare off.

Fluoresents are usually good.It saves electricity,and it isn't as bright asthe other light thatwe use.
