I'm preparing for dental school right now.
I'm only an assistant right now but it is so fun and artistic. Plus I like helping people relax. Some people come in so scared and tense and it's so fun to joke with them and get their minds off treatment.
I want to go into dentistry not for money but for helping people. I would LOVE to someday travel all over the world to help relieve people's pain. I'm so passionate it about it....so I'll get there someday. :-)

I don't think a parent should consider he or she has the right to "allow",or "disallow" a child to become anything that child feels drawn to. Naturally, I mean anything that is a perfectly legal and honest occupation, and certainly Dentistry is a most honorable and valid profession. I have joked with my dentist, also a personal friend, that I myself would have a problem when it came to dealing with a person who had so badly neglected his mouth and general dental hygiene, that I would get queasy working on such a mouth. LOL. But I am suuuuure glad that there are plenty of people who have gone into that profession. I feel like a million bucks when I come out from a routine cleaning.

I couldn't be a dentist; the thought of rooting around in people's mouth's does not appeal to me. If I ever had children though, I wouldn't mind if they wanted to be a dentist if that is what they wanted to do for a career.

I wouldn't be, looking at people's teeth isn't for me. If I had a child and they wanted to be a dentist, that's their choice. Maybe they would love it.

Yes, why not? It is well paid but dull, from what I hear from my friends who are dentists. There are options to specialise, though, which make it a bit more interesting.

of course. there's nothing wrong with it.
the thing about your child that's funny to me is that you think a parent has control over what their child does. They really don't.
they have control over money. but you can become a dentist without your parents' support. they don't have to let you become a dentist.
unless you are financially dependent on them, they have no control over you.

It is a good occupation, can pay well and give you lots of prospects - set up your own practice for example, work abroad etc. So I dont see why not!

i wouldn't want to be dentist because to me is so disgusting.
But it's up to my children what he wants to be. He/she can be a dentist if he/she wants to.
