well first you should change your dentist!
buy a soft bristle toothbrush and just brush your teeth gently
listerine is good but can be a bit harsh for some people if their gums are sensitive.
colgate is a milder one
make sure you brush your teeth and mouthrinse a least twice a day and after eating.
dont poke your teeth about with toothpicks etc
ive had this before and its worrying but if your dentist hasnt put your mind at rest then find a new one

Find a new dentist! Bleeding gums is a serious problem if left untreated! Bleeding gums is the first sign of gum disease. If your gums are bleeding what you need to do is maybe brush your teeth a little harder if you are not already doing so and make sure you brush thoroughly below the gum line and also start flossing! ( A dentist can show how to floss properly if you don't already do so). And also use mouthwash after brushing and flossing. You will still get bleeding gums but after a few days if you continue brushing and flossing as I mentioned above the bleeding will eventually stop. Your dentist is right this is due to plaque bulid-up. However a good dentist will give you a proper, thorough clean and give you advice on how to care for teeth properly/more effectively in order to prevent bleeding gums
So remember, don't brush your teeth more gently thinking that this will help stop the bleeding because it won't: In fact it will make it worse because it will lead to more plaque build up and thus more bleeding gums.

You have to floss. Not just a little between the teeth. You should wrap the floss around the tooth, crossing in front and floss to the point where the floss actually slips under the gum. My dental hygienist said to think of the gums as a turtle neck sweater and you are cleaning underneath the neck. It will hurt at first, but be patient, do what you can and within a week the bleeding will clear up and so will the pain. This is the only way to get rid of gum disease, which is the major cause of Americans losing their teeth. However, keep using the Listerine and invest in an electric toothbrush. They'll both help, but the flossing is essential. Do it while you're watching TV to get into the habit.

Bleeding gums is the sign of Gingivitis!! Don't stop using the Listerine, and try switching your toothpaste too and get a new toothbrush!! Then call another Dentist to get a second opinion!
With your bleeding gums, you need to brush your teeth three times a day and use the Listerine before and after every brushing!! Don't get the new kinds of Listerine get either the blue one or green one!! Those are most effective!!

You probably have gingivits. The only way to get healty gums it to brush more, because if you don't brush, plaque builds up and infects your gums. You should brush twice a day, start soft and as your gums bleed less, brush harder. You may also not be brushing the right way. Make sure you get your gumlines, and go in a circular motion. You should also floss AT LEAST every couple days. You will start seeing a difference in no time, I promise. Keep using the listerine, and try using floride too.

I think you must have the same dentist I used to have. Change the dentist. Your teeth are very important and plaque should be taken seriously. Bleeding gums can also be caused by a condition called gingivitus. Although gingivitus is quite rare where good oral hygiene is being used, bleeding gums is one of the signs as is bad breath. I use a Philips Sonicare toothbrush which is brilliant at removing plaque and whitening teeth. Good luck.

You need to buy a mouthwash called CORSODYL, you can get it fron any chemist or supermarket, rinse your mouth with it 3 times a day for one minute each time. Also buy a very fine Interdental brush and clean between all your teeth with it. This will make your gums bleed a little but don;t worry as you will be removing all the rubbish that collects in your teeth. Keep doing this and your problem will clear up in a week.
I had the same problem and this is what the dentist told me to do and it worked for me within 3 days.
Good Luck with it.

Change your dentist. Cut down on sweet sugary food ( if it's an issue). But she's not taking the issue seriously. Looks like you have some form of gum disease which should be dealt with. Insist on xrays and get an appointment with a dental hygienist who will clean the plaque and advise you.

Your gumes need to get reconditioned. You need to run your brush over them every day. Eventually they will no longer bleed which should only take a week or two.
Since your dentist does not show alot of concern for your question you should find a new dentist, one that is more helpful with your concerns for sure. Sounds like your dentist just wants your money and that is it.

You have gum diease! I have had the same thing on and off for about a year (and don tthink this only happens to older people ... im only 20!!!!). You need to see another dentist pronto as you need a dental treatment and a course of antibiotics to clear this up and a special mouthwash that you can only get from your dentist!
