even in the audio settings the sound recording device option is unavailable and it says that no recording device is present....is some driver or software missing which needs to be installed??..from where can i get the required software to make my mic work again??the speakers are all working fine...does the sound card need to be updated??

With your motherboard there is a CD that comes with it containing the drivers for the different devices of the PC. One of them is the sound card whether you have it a different part or it exists on the motherboard from the beggining. Insert this CD in the PC and select to install the drivers for the sound. A restart may be needed.

check your device manager. It should show a yellow exclaimation point by inoperable devices. Click the device for information. It is usually a missing driver.
