I was just wondering about the method used to heat food in a microwave and reckon it could be bad for you!
Any thought?

I would not think that eating regular food prepared in a microwave oven is bad for you, since the 'radiation' emitted by the oven isn't even of high enough energy to caramelize sugar. There are certain food chemistry reactions that simply cannot occur in microwaved food for the reason that the long wave microwave energy that excites the water molecules is insufficient to cause these reactions. That said, however, I believe it is probably the plastic containers that are the problem. They are not used in conventional cookery, and polymer breakdown could cause dangerous free radicals to transfer from the container to the food. (I'm not sure of the energies required for this without research, though).

My microwave broke after years of service; I am considering replacing it with a toaster oven and getting rid of "plastic cookware" specifically designed for microwave cookery.

Microwaving Your Food Isn't Safe
by Larry Cook

If you have ever wondered whether or not microwaved food is safe, here's an experiment you can do at home. Plant seeds in two pots. Water one pot with water that has been microwaved, the other with regular tap. The seeds that received microwaved water won't sprout. If microwaved water can stop plants from growing, think of what microwaved food can do to your health!

the microwave oven emites 'micrwaves' that develop up the partacles in the nutrition which makes it warmer. the microwave basically releases those waves while the door is closed or tampered with, its undesirable in case you run the microwave while the door is open simply by fact the microwaves are being set unfastened(the microwave sort doesnt bypass some distance so no useing a microwave to warmth you nutrition isnt undesirable for you except the door is open once you microwave it

Go ahead and "Nuke" your food and eat in confidence. You are not going to get some d eadly form of radiation sickness LOL. Many people still get the notion that somehow Microwave cooking has got something to do with "nuclear radiation" I don't really know how that came about
Matter of fact, if anything the veggies you cook in your microwave oven are probably even healthier because the nutrients have not been leached out by the water they might otherwise be cooked in.
I would certainly agree with the responder who mentioned the pre-packaged Microwave Meals, though. Excellent point. The producers of these all tend to put way too much salt and other preservative ingredients in there. I admit to using them on occasions - usually when I am in a hurry and I want a fast side dish. But I avoid making a habit of it.

No it is not bad for you. Some people think microwaving has something to do with radioactivity and that is not the case. Microwaves are radio frequency waves that cook by exciting the water molecules in food so that they heat up and cook the food very quickly.

Ten Reasons to Throw out your Microwave Oven
From the conclusions of the Swiss, Russian and German scientific clinical studies, we can no longer ignore the microwave oven sitting in our kitchens. Based on this research, we will conclude this article with the following:

1). Continually eating food processed from a microwave oven causes long term - permanent - brain damage by "shorting out" electrical impulses in the brain [de-polarizing or de-magnetizing the brain tissue].
2). The human body cannot metabolize [break down] the unknown by-products created in microwaved food.
3). Male and female hormone production is shut down and/or altered by continually eating microwaved foods.
4). The effects of microwaved food by-products are residual [long term, permanent] within the human body.
5). Minerals, vitamins, and nutrients of all microwaved food is reduced or altered so that the human body gets little or no benefit, or the human body absorbs altered compounds that cannot be broken down.
6). The minerals in vegetables are altered into cancerous free radicals when cooked in microwave ovens.
7). Microwaved foods cause stomach and intestinal cancerous growths [tumors]. This may explain the rapidly increased rate of colon cancer in America.
8). The prolonged eating of microwaved foods causes cancerous cells to increase in human blood.
9). Continual ingestion of microwaved food causes immune system deficiencies through lymph gland and blood serum alterations.
10). Eating microwaved food causes loss of memory, concentration, emotional instability, and a decrease of intelligence.
Have you tossed out your microwave oven yet?
After you throw out your microwave you can use a toaster oven as a replacement. It works well for most and is nearly as quick.
The use of artificial microwave transmissions for subliminal psychological control, a.k.a. "brainwashing", has also been proven. We're attempting to obtain copies of the 1970's Russian research documents and results written by Drs. Luria and Perov specifying their clinical experiments in this area.

In the longterm, over a long period of time, sure.. Microwaved food (irradiated food) will/is eventually bad for you. It's a matter of balance, personally I mean like most things in life it's moderation. People have different opinions, use your commonsense or to put it another way "Nuked Food" .. does it sound like its safe :))

It's bad only when you don't let your food cool off... I've taken a bite of a Hot Pocket one... it burned the heck out of my mouth.

The microwave heats food with radiowaves which excites water, fat and sugar molecules... In English, a microwave oven is a very powerful "radio" trasmitter which causes molecules to vibrate faster which produces heat.

l've read many articles about it and it says it is bad if you often eat food cooked in microwave oven. lf you're doing it for years now, might as well get back to the old style of cooking. As they say, too much of anything is bad.

Yes, it is.

there was this research where they found "plastic composites" from 15 year old childrens blood, that was derived from the plastic used to "tv-diner plastics that fast pizzas are covered with.

other bad things of it is, such as all the vitamins die on it. you eat only fillingstuff, no vital things at all.
