My stuffing recipie uses toasted bread as the main ingredient and I only have a 2-slice toaster. I'm not lazy, but I work night shift Wednesday night into Thursday and any time I could save for sleeping would be helpful...I'm thinking it may work if I separate the peices of bread a bit and bake them on 2 cookie sheets until they're light to medium. Will this work?

Sure!!! I also work a" Dead man- over nite shift"...I would dice the slices up and then put on the cookie sheet tho....the bread is eaiser to cut up when its soft,,,also less mess....

'Celticldy' had it right you can toast the bread in the oven....I usually leave mine out in a cake pan,after choping it into cubes, for the day before, turning it a few times till its nice and dry if its not dry then I put it into the oven turning it a time or two...at 350....watching it closely....I like to use potoe bread in my stuffing...so I usually do have to put it in the oven for a little bit...potatoe bread being so moist...but its wonderful for stuffing!...you can buy the cubes in the store but I like the tradition of preparing it all myself....and by the way the person who suggested taking bread left outside in a dump back of a store DON'T do it 1)...you can be acually acused of stealing!...thats right STEALING! it is still on their properity so it still belongs to them...and 2)...you could get some unwanted things included in that bread...SO DON't!....By the way I know this because I work for a store.....

I don't actually toast my bread--I just let it sit out on the counter over night the day before thanksgiving, turning it once or twice to make sure the bread dries out well on both sides. In a pinch one year, I forgot to put it out the night before, so I lined all my slices up (directly on the oven rack) and toasted them lightly until they were done at about 350. BE CAREFUL--they will burn VERY quickly! (Similar to garlic bread--you take your eyes off it for a split second and suddenly you smell smoke!)

Save yourself some time. The best stuffing comes from stale bread.

When you get off the night shift, just walk around the back of any supermarket and you'll see a pile of stale bread laying beside their garbage disposal. Take this.

When a recipe calls for toasted bread cubes you are suppose to do it in the oven.It saves time and you can do your chopping while it toasting.Happy Thanksgiving!!

Sure you can toast it, or just leave the cubes out while you're at work. Either way works perfectly well. But the toastier they are, the more broth they'll probably need. I'm sure it'll turn out great!
