I'm in college, and I live on campus, but it the school is in my home city, so I am able to come home some weekends without any problem. Everytime I come home my dog (whom I love very very very much) acts like she hasn't seen me in years. She's jumping like an acrobat and running around, and it makes me feel so loved! But sometimes I can be gone for like two or three hours and she acts the exact same way as if I've been gone for two or three weeks. She's closer to me than any other members of my family, and I cuddle her and treat her like my baby when I'm home; she also sleeps with me when I'm at home, and she sleeps in my bed when I'm away on campus. Is it weird that she acts this way or is it normal for a dog to be so attached? She's a 5 year old Beagle/Terrier mix named Oreo (in the picture).

This is very normal. They(dogs) have very short attention spans.. anything more than 5 minutes or so is forever to them.
It is the only time in your life you'll get unconditional love..enjoy it.
My dog is the thing that keeps me going sometimes.

BOL (bark out loud). It is nothing to worry about! Dogs do not have a really good concept of time. They really don't know how long you've been gone. (Well, that is more opinion than anything). My dogs are the same way! It doesn't matter if I'm gone for 8 hours or 45 seconds. They act as if i've been away for years. It's just their way of showing how much they love you and that they are glad you are back. It is also completely normal for dogs to get so attached to people. I'd take it as a compliment!

That is the wonder of dogs. They live in the moment. Every day when I come home from work my dogs act like they haven't seen me in years. If I go to the store and am gone for an hour they act the same way. Dogs are love on 4 legs wrapped in fur.

Yes, thats perfectly normal that your dog is so attached to you. Your dog misses you a lot even though you may be gone a few hours. My grandpa had 5 dogs. They followed him everywhere. If he went into another room, they all followed him. They were his baby's. They all slept in the floor with him too. Some dogs even whine for a very long time when the owner leaves the house, even if its for a few min. Its wierd how dogs pick a particular person. Maybe you spent more time with your dog, then anyone in your family, but in any case the dog choose you and loves you very much.

Some people and animals are majorly attached. She may have thought you weren't coming back. When my grandmother died, it was extrememly hard on her pet. And Tinkerbell (the dog) would act weird when my grandfather would leave and then act the same as your Oreo when he returned. She may not realize where you go. Is there a way to take the dog to your new place for a day of something and let her see your things in a new place. I know it sounds crazy, but it might help.

Dogs don't have any concept of time. Whether you leave for 3 minutes, 3 hours or three months, the reaction will be the same. She loves you and is just happy to see you.

It's a new day every time you leave/return for your dog. I go out for the mail and when I get back in the house you would think I'd been gone for hours! Appreciate the love she gives. Believe me no one, and I mean NO ONE else in your life will jump up and down and wag their tail because they're that happy to see you.

No, this is not weird at all! My Chesapeake Bay Retriever (around 4 years old) is the same way except for with my dad and sometimes me. If my dad is gone all day long (work, hunting, etc.), when he comes home Brutus runs to him, follows him everywhere and will sit next to his chair and stare at him. Yes, my dog will not let my dad out of his sight! We laugh about it, but it is normal....dogs get as attached to "their people" as we get to them!

It's completely normal for the dog to do this. My dog does the same when I just come home for the day, and does it to my parents, too. And when we ask if he wants to go for a walk or for a ride.

no. it is sometimes usual for dogs because you might seem a little different to the dog. The dog can sometimes mistake you for someone else. Though the it may talk a while the dog should evntually figure out who you are when you spend more time with them.
