I have a male tabby cat about a 1 1/2 years old, and suddenly he started growling when we went near his food. We've been trying to figure out why, since we have never taken food away from him. He also now doesnt like to be touched when he's eating, where as before he didnt care. The rest of the time he acts normal as before. Any ideas?

Beat the hell out of him! (Do I sound like a sadist?)

Did something change in his environment? Any little thing could be unsetting him. Perhaps a stray cat somewhere near by or a new pet next door. Is there something new about you? Did you change a product you use or somewhere you’ve been that’s new?

Get him to the vet and have him check out. Also, you really do need to have him fix if he isn’t already. A lot less problematic that way. If he is healthy and you really can’t figure out what’s setting him off, then just don’t be near him when he eats. I’m sorry to say, sometimes a cat’s attitude just changes. Do you have a reason for every little mood swing you have?

to circumvent being clawed bypass on your community puppy save and purchase a pair of booties on your cat. i'd also recommend you're making an appointment such as your vet. If this aggression is new then it will be a demonstration of a severe ailment and inspite of the actuality that if the aggression has continually been there that's attainable that it really is a situation that has been there for a lengthy time period causing discomfort. also, is she spayed? Hormones will be a substantial reason behind unusual behaviour in cats. If the vet supplies your cat's health an all sparkling i'd recommend using the booties to circumvent and damage and phone a behaviourist in case you could. Cats are very complicated animals and really favor to be talked about to really tell what's bothering her.

Cats generally don't like being disturbed when eating (there are exceptions of course). I suspect, however, that he has pain somewhere and is protecting himself by growling when you get close. Have him checked out for injuries.
Also, has he been fixed? If not, he could be getting aggressive.

It's called food aggression, and I know alot of dogs that experience that (my dog doesn't), but I've never heard of it in cats. Maybe you should talk to your vet.

he could be painful somewhere, his mouth could hurt or for some reason he just feels threatened now. I would take him to the vet to rule out dental disease or some other medical issue
