1. Eases the comfort of death (you'll see em again! It's just "goodbye for now")
2. Handy moral code (you don't have to think about whats right n wrong)
3. The Creator of All that Exists has a plan for your life
4. You have an all-powerful best friend who wants to listen to you talk to him all the time
5. A built-in social group every sunday (or any night of the week)
6. Knowing that no matter what horrible thing happens, it's secretly for your own good
7. You are a very important part of a grand design for the universe.
(Having said all that, I should note that I'm an atheist. It's just...we give all THAT up, for "the truth" so we must be pretty darned convinced!)

Most, if not all, religions teach that death is not the end for us. Most teach immortality of the soul, some teach fleshly resurrection, others reincarnation, and the list goes on. So that gives some peace to many.
However, the true religion also teaches the best way to live now. By forbidding immorality it frees us from many diseases and unwanted pregnancies. By condemning various defilements of the flesh (such as smoking, alcoholism and drugs), it helps us avoid other health problems and poverty (since these vices are costly). It also teaches the reasons why this world is so messed up and tells us what the future holds for the earth. All these give us peace of mind and a purpose in life. Who can ask for more than that in this degenerate, hate-filled world?

Deity worship creates a universal justice, with a clearly defined right and wrong being decided by a caring and understanding judge.
Life is not fair like that, and that's hard for a lot of people to accept.
Deity worship makes humans immortal, and removes the fear of death.
Every human is afraid of dying, and so this is extremely attractive. However, living in a fantasy world cannot be healthy, especially when it includes believing that everyone not in your religion will burn eternally in a lake of fire after they die.
Deity worship also removes responsibility for this world; who needs to care for the environment when God is taking care of the world?
This idea is very negative to society, but is extremely prevalent in religious circles.

It is innate for mankind to ask questions of himself ...Where did I come from? ...Why am I here? ...Where am I going? Furthermore, when we look around us and take in the complexity and beauty of the earth and ourselves and recognize the uniqueness of mankind from the rest of the living creatures, we yearn to know more about our Creator.
After honestly searching, we find that our Creator has given us the answers to life -- the Bible.
Here is what Philippians chapter 4 says (pay particular attention to verse 7) ...
4 Rejoice in the Lord always! Again I will say, Rejoice!
5 Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand.
6 In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.
7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.
8 Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report; if there is any virtue, and if there is any praise, think about these things.
9 The things which you learned, received, heard, and saw in me: do these things, and the God of peace will be with you.
Whatever screwed up things happen in this world (or to me), I know God is still in charge and I have a better place to look forward to. I have a peace that surpasses all understanding!
How miserable and hopeless to think that this world is all that there is and there is only void after we die because life is not fair.
Thanks be to God and God bless America!

It seems to give the religious members of my family strength in difficult times. I can't count how often my mother has said something along the lines of it being in God's plan when things are tough.
