I read somewhere that eating 500 calories fewer than ur body needs should help u to lose one pound a week. The average woman needs about 2000 cals to carry out her normal daily activities.

Losing 1-2 Ibs per week is healthy. Any more than that is no good. So u are on the right track

By reducing your caloric intake you are a step in the right direction, however to make this work you must do some moderate exercise also. If you stick to your diet only, you may lose a couple pounds in 30 days. You can double or triple that by exercising.
Then there is the case of what you are eating. Cut the carbs and the sweets. Check the labels for the following bad items:
Corn Syrup, High Fructose corn syrup, Hydrogenated oils, sugar, salt. On the first three, eliminate them completely. On the last two try and keep them as low as possible. This will improve your stamina and well being and maximize the calories that you are eating.

One variable you didn't mention was you level of exercise. If you exercise your body at a fairly normal rate, your body needs about 12 calories per pound of weight...so 175 X 12 = 2100 calories to maintain your weight. It takes about 3500 calories to equal one pound of weight. At 1500 calories you would be burning 600 calories of stored fat per day times 30 days equals 18,000 calories. Divide that by 3500 and you get a little over 5 pounds of weight loss. Keep in mind this is just an estimate based upon AVERAGE calculations. The best way to lose weight would be to ramp up your exercise to a point where your body requires, let's say, 14 calories per pound and combine that with the 1500 calorie diet. Then using the same formula, your weight loss would be a little over 8 pounds or about 2 pounds per week. Good luck.

It doesn't matter because as soon as you go back to eating what you do now you will put it all back on again plus a bit more for good measure. Actually on so few calories you are unlikely to lose weight at all. If you don't eat enough your body thinks it is starving and starts using muscle and conserving fat, not what you want. If you are serious about losing weight the only thing that will provide lasting weight loss is a change in lifestyle. If you need support and guidance contact Weight Watchers. They really are the best.
