I know it's a weird question, but thanksgiving is coming up, and I thought it would be nice to get together a list of why pain can be a good thing so I can look at it when I'm really hurting - you know, just to lift the spirits a bit.

I thought of two:
1) The more I feel pain, the less I fear death (I'm just not so scared of the pain associated with it as much).

2) It's wonderful to see how my husband cares for me as he does his best to take care of me and my daily tasks when I'm down.

I would love to have a much longer list - so please share.

I am thankful for my pain because it has shown me who the "real" people are in my life. Those who can't handle me as a person with chronic pain are gone, and good riddance!
I am thankful for my pain because it has made my son a better person, a more caring person, a more generous person, and definitely a more thoughtful person.
I am thankful that there are days when I can wake up and clean the house. On the days when I can't, I am thankful for the most wonderful husband, who never complains about working 10 hours a day and then coming home to a mess.
I am thankful for the days that I am able to provide a home-cooked meal for my family, even if it isn't half as often as I would like it to be.
I am thankful that I am alive (some days)

It does sound weird for those who do not feel pain to much...
For us who have chronic pain we have a tendency to come to grips with it....
I feel if it were not for my pain I may not be as stable for my kids as I should be. When I was young and the pain was not so bad I would always be moving, going, never had time.....Now I take time for my family and really not wanting to go anywhere!
I think I understand the basics of people better. I had never been the type to put people down or even wanted too. My pain started in my early teens, never thought then it would last soooo long! People are not at there best when they hurt all the time!
I hear you about death! Why be afraid??
People who feel chronic pain do understand each other....
Well here our a few....

Thank you for such a heartwarming and positive question. I have chronically severe pain, but because I do I know I am still alive and kicking. I could do with a repreive now and again, but oh well. I appreciate the positive way you look at such a miserable problem. You have lifted my spirits and made me take a second look at my circumstances. A person needs to be reminded ever so often right?

Pain is a sign you are alive, that your brain neurons are firing, your heart is beating, your lungs are still working. Consider the alternative, when the pain is so bad you wish you weren't here to feel it, think about all that you would miss out on!!! The blue sky, green trees, sunshine, soft star filled nights, the great smell of rich, dark coffee, that little jump you get in your stomach when you love is near...... hang in there

Pain is a warning that something is wrong, so you seek treatment and get well. There are people who naturally cannot feel pain, due to a heriditary nerve disorder and also due to damage to nerves in diseases such as leprosy and diabetes. They hurt or burn themselves without knowing it . Sometimes, they end up losing their fingers and toes.

It's a signal that something is wrong or needs changed. Those who experience pain search for answers, those without pain don't have a clue what they have.
