Mohammed believed he was a prophet (with a little prodding from his wife).

Because no man or prophet named Mohammed a prophet, Mohammed would have never felt a need to name a new prophet. He would have rightfully left this up to God.

Because Mohammed was wrong (as was his wife) , there was no prophet named after Mohammed and the ones that follow this way are in chaos as a result of this.

They are fighting over leadership and have forgotten that leadership is supposed to be servatude to Gods people, to teach and guide. It was never meant to have power and control, that is a man made teaching. Man made teachings will always be fought over and power and control will always be the goal.

Mohammad was the prophet and he could not and did not choose his successor, as a prophet is chosen by God only.

Ali was one of the 'Caliphs' who was/is most popular and beloved to Prophet Muhammad. The Govt of 'Caliphs' was selected democratically.

And as result of difference of opinion over the selection of 'Caliphs', the Sunnis and Shiets sects came into being.
