You should apply for a fiancee visa for your girlfriend. You don't have to be married, but you do have to get married within 3 months after she comes to the USA. This type of visa is faster than the Family Visa you would have to apply for if you were married to her. The fiancee visa could take 6 months to 1 year.

The fiance visa is supposed to be faster according to several USCIS empoyee's I have contacted. The USCIS, formally INS, moves slowly but does have estimated times it takes posted on uscis.gov for this process to be done. Once this is completed it goes to the National Visa unit and this is very perfunctory, very quick, and here, it goes to the State Department. A legion of rude people who seem to take particular delight in tormenting people. They do follow a stated procedure but take their own pace, slightly slower than a snail it seems. Once the interview is done, all the paperwork is in order, the consulate officer, a state department employee, is able to issue a visa immediately or almost immediately. This does not appear to be done due to conservative politics however and the applicant and their sponser are typically told that further investigation has to be done. What this entails is a mystery as questions are not answered, inquireys are either not answered, ignored, or written with the simple statements that further investigation or special clearances are needed. If you are lucky and your fiance is among those individuals deemed acceptable by changes in policies set forth by the State Department in January, 2006, your fiance will be given a K1 visa. If however, you do not meet the quidelines in this new set of rules I do not know what to tell you. Also, attempts to ascertain what is in these new quidelines is met with stoney silence, or in my case, disrespect and rudeness.

She must first qualify for a visa. If you are applying for her, there are a couple of options. You could try the k-1 visa by filing the I-29F. This visa is available for alien fiances, and there are strict regulations that must be followed. You also can marry but then that does take longer than the K-1. Also if you are not a citizen yourself it will affect the time limits by category.
