I have a gallon jug of Olive Oil in my kitchen I have had for 3 years is it still good to use or does olive oil expire and go bad?

all oils in all forms will go bad and oxygen is the culprit. Taste it , you will know immediately if it's not good. Since you are such an infrequent user of olive oil the next thing to do[ assuming it's still good ] is to pour what you would use in a month into another container and tightly seal and refrigerate the rest

yes it will go bad faster if it is in direct sunlight or stored near your stove. It should have an expiration date so check the bottle. I find it is best to purchase smalled containers so I use it up within say 6 months.

It is a monounsaturated fat, which means it has a longer shelf life than polyun's, but not as long as saturated. Three years is stretching it. It wont' kill you if you eat it, but it has probably gone a bit rancid... that would be my guess.

You may try using it up by putting a tsp. or so on your pet's food every day for a shiny, healthy coat. If they wont' eat it, ditch it.

well on my behalf, that stuff can expire just like vegetable grease and for a matter of fact my mom has some,yet she and the family use it for blessing oil, when she put it on my head about a year ago and today, it still smells funny maybe it's time to get somemore but for me talking about it I'm starting to smell it............... so I'll roll out and answer more questions..........

Olive oil can go rancid. Give it a taste, if it tastes good it is.
