I dont think its ever good to be overweight. Let the trainers at the gym tell you the best things to eat (eggs, chicken etc).

NO, a definite no,on being overweight to start with. Being over weight is hard on your heart no matter what your age is. If your intent is to build muscle, which I think it may well be, then you need to do weight bearing exercises starting with lighter weights as it will put stress on your rather dormant muscles and you will ache the next day or so. After the first day, give your body a day to adjust, do not go at it again until the third day. Slow, methodical, weight bearing exercise adds muscle and you will not lose weight. The exercise which makes you lose weight is aerobic, like walking or running or on a treadmill. The best thing would be for you to find some activity which you like and would be weight bearing. My hobby is gardening, or one of my hobbies, and it involves moving heavy objects at times, I find it very satisfying and it keeps my muscles in tone.

Do you want a six pack or a keg, being overweight does not help, it only makes it harder on you to burn the calories? There are two routes to follow, become ripped or build mass.

Build Mass
Eat a gram of protein per target weight.
Exercise using low reps/high weights and rotate major muscle groups during the week.
Dont forget to lift leg muscles also. Helps release testosterone and you dont look like a top heavy idiot.
Recommend getting a friend/spotter and talk to someone at your local gym to start a program for you.

Get ripped
Diet, drink plenty of water, and be prepared to run your butt off. Start a cardio program and do high reps/low weights.

Always consult a doctor before starting any program. Dont expect to see results after one visit, it takes time!!!

If you want to build strength, you do NOT need to put on weight. You just need to go the Gym and use the weights. Start small and gradually build up to gain strength. Also eat a balanced diet and you should be well on the way.

Are you just sick of the typical diets have been right after the diet plan finish the added lbs are just coming and coming soon after finish the diet plan? Are you encounter the reality that after your body will get utilised to a diet then this diet regime turns into significantly less effective more than time since your entire body adjusts to compensate?

it is not better to be over-weight - ever! just go to the gym and start now, dont delay it by thinking that you have to modify your diet beforehand. when you join you will have an instructor induct you in the equipment etc, why not tell them what you want from your body and ask them for a diet plan. they will know better whats the right things to be eating to gain body strength.

Do NOT gain weight before joining the gym.

I would suggest getting Arnold Schwarzenegger's book "Encyclopedia to bodybuilding".

You don't have to be or want to be a bodybuilder to use this book. It has tons of great exercises to gain mass and definition. Put in on your Christmas list!
