I'm not talking about "going-back-to-a-certain-point" restore; I want to erase all data from my hard drive because I'm selling the computer. How can I do this without a system restore disc? I don't want anyone to access my personal files later by retrieving deleted files by using programs such as GoBack. Please help. I don't have the system restore CD. How can I protect myself? Thanks.

If you don't have the disc then you won't be able to reinstall the OS. If you aren't worried about that then I would suggest downloading a Linux live CD and using it to wipe the drive. This will write over the data on the drive many times with 1's and 0's. This should be adequate protection. The only true way to completely guard any data on the disk from being seen by someone else is to physically destroy the drive.
