I get frustrated with all the racial tension that exists in our society. There seems to be a double standard as to what is socially acceptable.
I do not use negative words to address people of other ethnic backgrounds. I feel that is very rude and disrespectful. . Furthermore, I expect to be retreated with the same respect that I show towards others. Yet, I constantly hear the word "cracker" being used by some of my black friends. This upsets me very much! I feel that if someone asks to be respected, they must respect others in return.
When I confronted him for using the word, I was told that I was over-reacting and that the word was being used in a non-offensive- joking context. I asked how he would feel if I jokingly threw the word ****** into our conversation? He didn't see the homor.
Am I the only one who feels that it is unacceptable to be called a cracker?

There is, and no you are not the only one. I am not offended by racial slurs at all, I was raised to love everyone regardless of skin color. If people want to act ignorant around me, than so be it.

Just roll it off, and try one by one to change the world :)

No you're not the only one, I know how you feel. Just look at music, specifically Rap. They use the word Honkey or Cracker yet their music is not labeled racist, but when a White uses the word ***.ger in a song, then it is racist. For some reason a lot of America feels we owe blacks too much for what happened to their ancestors, but as history shows, most blacks from Africa that were brought to America as slaves were sold by their own tribes. Also, the argument about BET, if a WET network came out, it would have the ACLU, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton and the NAACP all over them calling them racist. It is a double standard.

Definitely a double standard. It's not just a problem of them disrespecting others (which, by the way, is completely offensive). So many whiny black rappers keep on using the "N" word as if taunting others to use it to, yet are offended when someone actually DOES say the word (even if it was unintentional). It pisses me off. And I'm not even white!

As for when they comment on how their ancestors were slaves, brought to America by force, bla bla bla... Let me ask you this, would you rather be starving somewhere in Ethiopia (not to say that all afro-americans are from Ethiopia. You get my point) or eating 3 meals a day in your comfortable life in America where you have the luxury to b*tch about every single thing possible?

Before anyone b*tches to me about how i wouldn't understand their dignity being ripped away as slaves, shut up. My ancestors have been slaves before. Put a sock in it.

I agree. Why is it that we can have NAACP, but not NAAWP? I went to a chinese restarunt in Chinatown in DC this weekend, and there was obviously a Chinese section (the bigger section, with chopsticks, etc.) and a smaller section with everyone that wasn't chinese, with forks, etc. It was me and 3 other female white girls, and another table of white (caucasian) people, and a black couple in our section. It was very segregated. The food was awesome, but it was still very obviously separated. Best beef lo mein I've had.

I also don't understand why people get upset when they are referred to as "black." We can't assume that everyone is african-american, there are people from South Africa that are white in skin color that are also African-Americans, and some people with black skin are from Jamaica, and other nations. We're all Americans. We all say the pledge of allegiance, We all salute the flag, Support our troops (despite the controversy over why they're there) etc., and if you don't, then why are you here? As a taxpayer, I'd be happy to book your flight home.

Oh, and this is America, and we speak English. Please learn it if you want to live with us and communicate with us. And Americans, please learn proper English. Spell out your words completely, and at least try to spell things right. I'm guilty of mispellings, but at least I spell my words out completely, u kno? ;)

Of course there are. They think it is okay to insult whites because they feel our ancestors misused their "whiteness" to oppress and destroy and, in their opinion, this is justification. When speaking with these types you aren't allowed to defend yourself because they generally respond with some garbage like "Whites have never been slaves. You have nothing to complain about." Next we will have to apologize for the crusades. I too think it is unacceptable to be called a cracker. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

TRUE. THERE IS DOUBLE STANDARD ON ALL SIDES.

ONE SIDE USES N "WORD" BUT DON'T WANT "CRACKER"
SIDE USING IT. THEY USE CRACKER FREELY. OR HONKIE ECT. YET SEE NO HARM...

RACE WORDS NEED TO BE DROPPED.

COLOR NEED BE DROPPED.

WHITE OR POOR TRASH
ECT

RAP TRASH TALKING DOES NOT HELP
BLACK OR WHITE.
