Okay, I am not afraid of needles at all. I've had blood taken tons of times. I do however understand having an irrational fear. I am petrified of driving. Can you imagine how difficult it is for me to get around? Yes people make fun of me too. The only things I can tell you to do to help with the fear are to calm down, think about how millions of people have this done every day and they turn out fine. Try to control your breathing in fact concentrate on controlling your breathing. Keep your head turned away and scrunch up your face really tight. Hopefully this helps.

How many blood tests have u had to have? Don't look at the needle or watch the nurse prepare the supplies. Close ur eyes and concentrate on ur breathing. Take slow deep breaths in and let them out slowly. Have someone go with u to hold ur hand, and have a nurse hold down the arm that they r drawing from so u don't jerk and have to be stuck a second time. Tell them to get their best phlebotomist in there so they can get it on the first try. U'll be fine. It's over in a second.

I think we have something in common regarding the needles, because I am also TERRIFIED when I eveen see a needle. My fear is because of an intensive blood test that took 6 hours with me seating with a needle in my hand. I was only 12.
Now when it comes to blood tests I only look away and try not to think about it.
Good luck!
It's just in your mind...

You really should just go get this done. Keep your mind off it as much as possible. It seems as though you are getting worked up already. That stress isn't good for you.
So - Go! Don't look, don't move, don't scream and all that. It will be fastest the calmer you are. Last time, you most likely made it harder on yourself than it needed to be. Just go - hold your arm out, close eyes. It will be done. Slow deep relaxed breaths. Start practicing now. Don't be late. You will do super!

Here is what you do, do not look at the needle when they bring it in. When they say, "Let me see your arm," close your eyes. That's what always works for me because I used to almost faint. And doctors had to hold me down when I was little. Now no problem. Just whatever you do, DON'T LOOK.

i sort of know how you feel, i am really scared of needles maybe not as much as you are but i am scared...because i have recently moved country i had to get 8 injections which was a nightmare for me! but i went through with it and it was okay all you need to do is just sit there and imagine your somewhere else. im know it may be extremly difficult but you just need to focus and kind of forget what is happening, im sorry if this doesn't work for you but it helped me :) good luck!

lots of people are afraid.... theres nothing wrong with it,, you just gotta tell your self that this is something I have to do for my health,,,,,,, deep breaths, and dont look, I know how you feel my 16 yr old is the same way,,, but you have to do this,, keep telling your self that and pray for the best,, theres nothing wrong with crying either.

Decide on a reward for yourself and focus on that. The minute you are done with the bloodwork, run--don't walk--and get that reward!!!
