Bureaucracy and corruption, pure and simple. Even small townships are now guilty of the practice. Our little town recently had curbs gutters and sidewalks installed in the outlying areas within the city limits, the actual cost of material and labor by the contractor was just under $80,000. The total cost from the city treasury was over half a Million in tax dollars. Go figger…

The reason for the curbs and sidewalk was so the city could qualify for federal revenue sharing to fix potholes in the street. The total to fix the potholes, (quot’s from asphalt contractors ) were in the area of $200,000.

No amount of clever voting will stop this kind of waste. A few years earlier the assessor doubled property taxes.. giving the city that much more money to throw away. A vicious cycle. Profiferation of taxes is the main culprit. Stop paying them.

The Government allows for no competition. In the USA the Government has grown bigger not smaller under Republicans in the past 6 years. Defense will cost's tax payers $498 billion in 2007.
I would support cutting that in half. The 50,000 Republicans that would get layed off could compete for real jobs. In Ohio, there are 3,300 Republicans that work for the State now. They will be looking for a real job. They will be replaced by 3,300 Democrats. Since a Democrat is now Governor. For the first time in16 years.

usually because the government need to do it for the masses and some stuff cost more. An average person might not need a $50 more computer, but the government does to hold the information.

Also the government is filled with burococy so that takes up money.

Kickbacks, lobbyists, etc. It's criminal.

For 99 cents I purchased a hand held hole punch at Office Max. At my job I saw that same hole punch sold to the government for $56. NO LIE!!

THAT IS BECAUSE THIS GOVERNMENT HAS A LOT OF SECRET PROGRAMS THAT HAVE TO GET FUNDED. THEY BUY HAMMERS FOR 10K A PIECE WHEN THEY COST ABOUT 2 DOLLARS. THE EXTRA MONEY IS ALLOCATED TO SPECIAL AND COVERT OPERATIONS THAT ARE CARRIED OUT BY THE GOVERNMENT.

It is right alongside the answer to this question.....Why do people that are on compensation take longer to heal than a person that is self employed or owns a business? I posed that question to my doctor when I broke my arm and he noticed the truth in my observation.
