This is something you'll have to learn to get used to. Sorry, but that's Army life.

TDY is Temporary Duty. Unless it's a certain amount of time or specified on his orders, you won't be going with him on these assignments. Usually, TDY is some sort of school, training or "war games".

PCS is Permanent Change of Station. This is an official government move. It's usually from one post to another. If he's in AIT, he still hasn't made a PCS move yet. PCS is a change in duty.

Korea is NOT a deployment. That's considered an unaccompanied tour. They last a year to 18 months. There's several places he could get sent for an unaccompanied tour. In most cases, you won't go with him, thus the unaccompanied. That's a PCS for him though. He can also go to Japan, Germany, Italy or other locations overseas that you will be able to move with him as a PCS. Places like Germany are a 3 year assignment.

There's several locations he can deploy to such as Bosnia or Iraq. Deployments will last a year to 18 months as well. Those, you won't be allowed to travel with him at all. He can also deploy from and overseas location as well.

Hope this helps. Be prepared for time apart. Stay strong and independant, but love and trust him with all you have. You'll be able to do fine. The Army is a rough life, but it's a good life. It'll definitely be what you make of it.

Good luck!!

The thing is that it depends on the length of his orders and what his Chain of command thinks about accompanied TDYs, if it is a short term (less than 2-3 months) or training TDY short term, than you might go with him depends on what the post has to offer in terms of housing, or what his orders/commanders say.

If these TDY orders are followed by a follow on assignment even if it is TDY followed by a PCS assignment than you would be probably allowed to go with him if you choose because there is a PCS at the end of it.

TDY stands for Temporary Duty. Does he already have orders to somewhere else? The Army usually would not send a PVT TDY somewhere, unless he is going there for Air Assault or another school...if it is TDY for under 6 months, no you can not go with him...or the Army would not pay for you to go with him...or give him money to live off post or give him On-post housing. PCS is Permanent Change of Station...means he is going there to stay...TDY is Temporary....I hope this helps....

TDY's are never acompanied. you may go with him, but it willall be on your dime( and if you aren;t amrried, will not be able to get base housing.

Now, if his Ft Campbell orders are his PDS orders.. you still can't go withhim, since you aren't marreid yet and are therefore not on his orders. he will ahve to show up to his PDS and request an ORDMOD in order to have the military move you there.

PCS:Permanent change of station. Must be at least 6 months long and in most cases, Family members are authorized
TDY: Temporary duty. family members are never authorized.

it means he will be going temporary duty, this sound like he is going tdy in route to his duty station,, the only way you can go with him is if his orders say with dependent authorized. if his orders do not say this ( i don't think they will as you are not married yet) then you can not go, unless he foots the bill for the motel for you to stay in. if this is for air assault school, he will be staying in a barracks with every one else, and will not have much time for his self. i would have him check his orders for what they say.

TDY means temporary duty station. You can go.
He may however be deployed from there. Do not
worry however, deployment could mean anyplace
in the world.

For he could be deployed to South Korea, in which
you could not join him, or he could be sent to
Germany , in which case you could go to.
