Take it from a former chef, rice of any kind does not go bad, some of the people who answered you are misinformed.
If it is stored in a bag or tin, that is air tight or in a cool dark place, don't let it worry you, if that was the case most of the people in China and India would be sick, as the best rice is fermented and stored for months, like Basmati it is stored and allow the age up to a year in the mountians were it is harvested, and as the one person said it is not really a rice, it is the seeds from a wild grass harvested by Native people, by beating the tops of the plant while floating in a canoe to trap the materials.

RE:
does wild rice spoil or turn rancid?
I have some in my cupboard that's easily over a year old. Should I toss it?

NO. Wild rice keeps very well, similar to any dried goods. I buy 10 pounds at a time when the wild rice crop is good and store it for 2-3 years. When the crop is poor and prices are up I always have a stash. Store it in an airtight container.

Of course it is! You'll get plenty of fiber between both foods, and there's plenty of protein in the wild rice. This meal sounds so yummy. Just be careful to not use too much butter on the rice if it is hot. If cold, Italian dressing or lemon juice is always great. Enjoy! BTW- to those who think wild rice is just carbs/starch, it really isn't . It technically isn't even rice! But it is good for you, nutritionally. All things in moderation, but don't overdo it...

Just toss it and get some fresh rice. It will spoil in 8 hours cooked. Couldn't find anything on the shelf life of uncooked. I do know people that have had rice in the cabinate for years and still cooked the rice. That was the bleached rice so again, Im not sure...

You should ... wild rice, isn't rice at all ... it's actually a grass ... I would rather just toss is and save yourself from food poisoning later on ... and besides ... if you were planning to serve it for Thanksgiving and it was bad ... that's really really bad!!

i have never had dried rice turn bad. I have had some become invaded by small grubs or something. Look closely, if you don't see any mold or other foreign objects then you can use it.
