I REALLY want to quit smoking - but it's the hardest struggle of my life. The gum is disgusting, zyban makes me twitch, the patch is itchy, and cold turkey turns me into a mega-*****. I just want to hear a real-life person who has had a hard time quitting and how they overcame that.

hmm....it took me over two years to really quit smoking. And even now i'm still tempted. I didnt want to try any of that disgusting patch and gum stuff so i always just attempted to do it cold turkey. Let me tell you... its always a rough time. It is mind over matter though. What I finally ended up doing was realizing that smoking has been such a HUGE part of my life for so long and that I basically revolved around all the time I take out just to smoke cigs. I realized that in order to quit, i'd have to change everything. Especially how I looked at everything.
I told myself that I want to be healthy. I don't want to slowly kill myself anymore. And i'm never happy smoking anyways. I want to be able to walk up more than a flight of stairs without getting winded. I want to do this.
So i just started cutting back....i mean instead of smoking after every meal, or smoking while driving, i'd just not do it. Or only have one cig versus two.
Then after I cut back some, I joined a gym.--and made a complete a** out of myself. I stunk of Cigs so bad I made everyone around me make faces. The money I used towards cigs went towards my gym membership.... (cheaper that way!) If i'm willing to buy cigs day after day, i might as well put it somewhere better.
This is a long story.... basically I just changed everything that i did. And now i've stopped smoking. You'll realize how much time out of your day that you spend smoking and realize that you can be doing much more with your time than just killing yourself. Its such a personal struggle too. I wish you the best of luck !!!! It takes time but you can do it! Just think of all the things its keeping you from doing.

It is all mind over matter. If you are one hundred percent ready to do it you will find a way and do it. I went on the patch and the itch goes away, then i switched to the gum. Some people use the nicoderm inhalers. Perhaps if you cut back gradually and then quit. Pick certian smokes to give up. The very first one of the day perhaps and then the last one. Set limits on yourself.
All you can do is keep trying if your serious about it and eventually it will happen.

I quit cold turkey. Really its different for everyone. I've had different methods work for me and my friends have all tried different things. Patch, gum, cold turkey, lol switching to chew.......yeah thats a great idea. Anyway, of all the treatments, the one that worked for more of my friends was that smoke away system. I can say everything else worked on one friend or another, but that worked on a friend, an aquaintance, and an uncle.

Minus the patches, my Dad quit cold turkey 10-6-86. He's still free of it. I know you said you've tried that, but try again. It's a matter of life and breath.

Take up another habit such as excessive masturbation. Then you won't even think about cigarettes....at least i hope you won't....I know they're super sexy and all but jesus.
