Could be he has another kidney stone. It can block the ureter and not let urine into the bladder. A stone can cause a lot of pain and the body's reasction could be the fever. Also he could have a bladder infection. He should get a urine test done. A virus cannot be killed with antibiotics. Sometimes you just have to wait for the virus to pass. You can treat the symptoms with motrin and tylenol. Drinking plenty of water will help keep him hydrated and kidneys flushed. He may have the problem with being dehydrated that is why it is difficult to pee.

I will tell you this: Pharmacist know a WHOLE lot more than doctors. Call your pharmacist, tell him/her what is going on and what the hospital said. I garantee you that they were dead wrong in everything they said. Anytime the doctor prescribes anything to me I ask my pharmacist about it before filling. They have caught a few errors. Doctors aren't all up to date with the latest medicines, and the pharmacist may be able to suggest something over the counter.

Not sure what it could be, but I would suggest he either go to another hospital, or make an appointment with a Dr.

Best of luck, and get well wishes to your friend.
