As I have always said. Some people need religion. Non-religionists need to understand that. But then again religionists need to understand that some people don't need religion. If your religion helps you be ok with waking up in the morning, then good.....

Too much of anything is bad for everyone.

If one can learn just the good from religion and not take it literally, it's good for you.

Taking it too literally can cause problems for you.

Going to the Church on a Sunday, for example, can a nice thing ... the choir is good and the Priest gives us a nice sermon on love. We meet our friends and exchange pleasantries and every one goes home happy and with elated spirits and goodwill for all.

Take, instead, if you are submitted to a hate filled lecture about everyone else who are non-believers when you've gone there to pray and all those around you scream rabidly of the hate ... do you think that's good for you or anyone else?

Of course not. This will only succeed in causing more problems.

Religion is a comparative thing. Some Religion is good. Not all Religions are, though.

Have a nice day.

Religion is good for the soul, without a doubt. Unfortunately our human minds lack understanding of each other's culture, and fail to see through the subtle differences in the various world religions to realize that we all basically want the same things out of life.

Honestly, it all depends on the individual and how they use what messages they get from their religion of choice. I don't need a religion to be happy in life and feel special. But I respect that some people do need it to feel some kind of protection and hope for a happy afterlife. However, we atheist must hold up as an example of how damaging religion can be; the Spanish inquisition, the holy wars, crusades, salem witch hunts and more to emphasize how bad religion can be when directed by people with an agenda for hate and power.

Well depends on what a soul means to you and I. I think of soul as the mental and physical well being, harmony between the two. Overall happiness.

I think it is both. It is a source of great comfort and security for many. To others it is a motivator for violence.
Religion, like other Ideals, can be both good and bad.

It all comes down to how people perceive it.

Depends on how you define the relgion. If religion controls you then it may not be good. But if the religion teaches you how to control yourself then it is good.

If religion is based on the life of immoral prophets, then it is not good. But if the religion is taught by someone who lives the good morals, then it is good.

Religion is not the problem. It is people who make religion a tool for evil purposes is the real problem.

If you let religion control you then people will take advantage of you. But if you let the religion teach you how to live morally then you are wise.

I think organized religion is the problem. Anytime you assign someone as a leader to anything, then their will and desire become the foundation of the organization.

As to whether religion is good for the human soul, I think it is. When someone believes in a higher power, whether it exists or not, they are looking for answers on how to live life as a better person, and anytime someone looks to be a better person, it has got to be good.

Religion is good as a security blanket for people because it makes them feel like they have a purpose and meaning as to why we are here. I have noticed that alot of people I know who are very insecure in themselves are very religious and I think that it gives them comfort. It lets them feel like someone else is in control because they have no confidence in themselves. It has alot of negative aspects though because some people follow the words they are taught in a very literal sense. The words they read are there but they don't have the common sense to not take them seriously. Ex. in the bible it says its OK to have slaves but you just can't beat them too badly...and if your wife cheats on you that its OK to stone her, and if anyone believes any other religion then you have to kill them without question with your own 2 hands....the people who take that stuff literally are dangerous...and the moderate religious people need to step up and make sure that stuff doesn't go on...because it does.

Religion seems to be the basis for a lot of hostility and wars, not only today but going back centuries. People have been persecuted for their beliefs for thousands of years, and who is to say which religion or belief is correct. So...is religion good for the soul? I guess only God knows for sure.

Religions are just ways to see things...some are differents, some are alike...but the fact is that the problems are not the religions...is us...we shouldnt fight over points of view, or if ur religion is true and the other person is false...that doesnt matter, we should just see what religion really is about..praising God, traying to get to know him more... that is what should be important...
