I have a 10mm (1cm) kidney stone and no insurance. It is located in the very upper part of my ureter. Is there a chance of passing this w/o medical intervention?

Yes there is a reasonably good chance although your stone as your stone is less than 1/2 inch. If you are not in severe pain and if the ureter is not obstructed (which leads to swelling of the kidney) you have every reason to patiently wait. If the ureter becomes obstructed you are likely to be in extreme pain. It is true that infection is possible but again this will generally be announced by symptoms and prompt treatment with an antibiotic does not increase your risk of kidney infection or damage.

you can, but you will be in pain. Your urine will looke like a dark tea. My husband passed one and thats what happened. Just drink lots of water and either drink cranberry juice or go out and get the cranberry tablets. If you go the pill route remember to take them as the bottle tells you. Also take something to help with the pain (Like tynenol).
