Why is it offensive for there to even EXIST a depiction of mohammed (or muhammed)?
The Christian world has a definite excess of pictures, paintings sculptures of Jesus.
Buddah is everywhere in that belief system.
The religious of India have an abundance of Vishnu and other gods in sculpture and paintings.

Why, oh why, is it offensive to have a picture, drawing, etc.. of the supposed prophet of islam?

To Blackenwite's answer:
I did no mention representations for religious reasons. MUSLIMS HAVE FAMILY PHOTO ALBUMS, so the thought of 'graven images' is not the point.
That i why I said EXISTENCE of pictures.
obviously cartoons, or other drawings CAN be offensive, but so i blowing up buildings an offending does not seem to be a big problem for the same extremists that want cartoonists dead

Because they have to make a fuss when the press does something that they don't like. I'm a Christian, and people do stuff I don't like 24/7. People who are like that need to get over it.

it is same for the Jews and depicting God. Whatever statue, picture, drawing may be "prayed" can be configured as an idol.. so no depiction is allowed, because you do not pray Mohammad but only God. Mohammad only transmitted his word

Well as I understand it the religion forbids it,although representations of him do exist in the world. Like the one of him on the Supreme Court building, good thing they don't believe in human rights and basic laws or they might have noticed that one and rioted in American streets,LOL

I believe that Moslems are very opposed to any "graven image" and don't want their concept of God to be marred by pictures, carvings or sculptures.

I think they are right in this matter. If your religion says not to worship graven images, why do people sit in church in front of a picture, carving or sculpture of any thing they consider "god"? It is simply against their religion to worship a man made drawing of "GOD".

because maybe they feel like people are making fun of something or somebody really important to them...try to understand...that they priorities might be different from yours...

u should practice respect and dont put pictures that make fun of something that they respect...cuz its just provocative...and things have been sensitive since 9/11...now is when we should try to respect each others differences the most...
