Apply for the christmas list at your local DHR office....otherwise known as the welfare office....also contact local churches to see what they may have to offer. You may want to check with the Community Service Program in your area (OCAP). Look up social services in the phone book and make some calls.
Best of luck to you, and I hope your surgery goes well.

I feel badly for your situation. And it seems like all the other answers should help you out. But I'm just wondering. I see alot of the same questions on this site. How are people that are in such dires straits as to require public assistance have a computer? My husband and I both work full time very well paying jobs and we consider a home computer a luxury item that we can't affod right now. (P.S. I'm on my luch break at work using the internet)

If you were injured on the job then get a lawyer for a worker's comp case. They'll be able to help you get the ball rolling.
Ditto on salvation army, etc. Most churches do a Christmas drive where they take a copy box and wrap it, then fill it with christmas toys (stuff they need, like gloves, scarf, hat, coloring book, etc., not like a tickle me elmo or 5 barbie dolls), etc.

Depending on where you live. There are food banks that will help you out. Also if you go to church, the church will also help you out. You can sign up for toys for tots for your kids for christmas. Depending on which radio station you listen to they have certain things they do to help the community. Just need to find out which one is doing what for the holidays. Sometimes if you have an email address people will help you out to.

Go to your extended family, go to your church, go to friends and neighbors, if you are genuine they all will help.
